Samantha at the dog park.

We threw a small stick in the creek for Lily to fetch, and she decided to bring back this huge branch! She was pretty proud of her self :)

[After receiving much praise, she proceeded to eat the branch...Why must puppies eat everything?!]

NOTE: You can do action shots with a manual focus lens by simply picking a big enough f-stop, and pre-focusing where you think the action will be. Hershey, the wonder dog, is in prefect focus here. The toy she has in her mouth is a special "soft" Frisbee like thing that she enjoys chasing.

Good grief - every shot of Toby today was either bad or his eyes were closed... and then the camera battery died.

He can play fetch even with his eyes closed? One paw tied behind his back?

This dog knows how to play fetch. Ready to run.

My wife and I were visiting a local park the other night and taking photos of some Trumpeter Swans when we ran across this really cool dog. His name is Harley, and he is a chocolate Labradoodle. He was a riot and loved to play in the water.

Week 3 in the 52 weeks of Coco.

Coco loves fetch. She did not break eye contact with that tennis ball. I could have dangled a juicy steak in front of her and she would not have taken her eyes off of that ball. She's a true Lab. Water and fetch. Those are her passions!!

I must caveat that I took this photo with the absolute worst lens in my bag, so please forgive the obvious flaws. Its an old Nikkor 70-300 that I got in 2005 before I knew anything about what made a decent lens. oh.my.god is this lens bad. Wow. I think today is the last day I will use it. Time to save up for a used 80-200 instead. I have lately been finding myself wishing that I had something longer for some portraits and especially when I am out photographing Coco. Does the need for gear ever cease?

Leila is always ready to play!

Miriam and Joshua's favorite semi-obscure PBS character.

Jimmy Dean likes to play fetch, sort of. He begs to play, then he spends most of the time making some awlful noises at his toy elephant as he bites it. This happens several times a day, every day.

Just having a bit of fun on the beach. The dog seemed to be enjoying himself too :-)

Kimberly, Montague Farm, Cheney, Washington.

Shane gets really jealous when we're out in the water an he isn't. After I took a wakeboarding run he was begging to come in with me, so I invited him in. Being a retriever, he wanted to help and insisted in bringing in my board for me.

Of course I get a good shot of Toby when I don't really need it. So here's a different interpretation of this topic.

Toby's covering ground!

Watercolour on 300 lb Arches. 10" x 14". This painting was done on commission. I took about 25 photos of these two dogs running and playing in the yard. The black collie dog was less aggressive than the Lab. He would always let the lab get the stick. I created this composition from several of the photos.

Another diafine processed shot, this time with expired Fomapan Action 400. I had heard this film wasn't ideal with Diafine, I don't think it's too shabby.

The simple things in life like playing in the woods with my dogs really remind me what it's all about.
