We did a longish coastwalk from Newton Ferrers to Mothecombe at the weekend. It looked like it was going to rain when we arrived at Newton Ferrers but the sky cleared to give a warmish winters day with some great views.

We have been making the most of the late summer weather down in the S Hams which has been ideal for reflection shots as the wind has been quite light. This is the view from Noss Mayo across to Newton Ferrers.

Photopgraphié à Portet-de-Luchon une commune française située dans le département de la Haute-Garonne en région Occitanie. Ses habitants sont appelés les Portetois.

Alzando lo sguardo ( sono distratta , non l'avevo notato ), in un angolo di un palazzo in Via San Luca, Genova, un'edicola a San Vincenzo Ferreri ( che non conoscevo ).
Nativo di Valencia , fervente predicatore, visse nella seconda metà del '300.
Passò anche da Genova, dove predico' e durante una paurosa pestilenza si prodigo' nella cura dei malati. Così, molto tempo dopo, nel 1747 , fu messo questo marmo , che rievoca la figura e i gesti generosi di questo Santo

The Grade I-listed St Andrew's Church in Bere Ferrers, Devon, contains the oldest stained-glass window in Devon (excluding Exeter Cathedral), dated at 600 years old. The building was probably built at various times between 1290 and 1340. Simon Jenkins, who considers this to be one of England's Thousand Best Churches, draws attention to the intersecting tracery of the east window, where the early 14th century stained glass was given by Sir William de Ferrers, builder of the church. Christ is portrayed in the centre with a Ferrers husband and wife in the outer lights. The colouring is vivid and rare in Devon.

An early morning visit to Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers paid off quite well as there were some pretty good reflections.

Puebla de Sanabria (en sanabrés, La Viella) 67 8 es un municipio y localidad española de la provincia de Zamora, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León.9 El municipio de Puebla está situado en el noroeste de la provincia, en la comarca natural de Sanabria. Además de Puebla, su término municipal incluye las localidades de Castellanos, Robledo y Ungilde.
El casco urbano de Puebla se encuentra en un territorio al que la naturaleza ha dotado de especiales características defensivas, modeladas a lo largo de los siglos por el arroyo Ferrera y los ríos Tera y Castro, que la han dotado de su especial fisonomía de espigón. Además, su ubicación estratégica junto a la frontera con Portugal, hizo que esta plaza fuera desde antiguo una villa aforada, fortificada y amurallada, con un notable protagonismo en la formación histórica del territorio que la rodea. Fue sede de un notable poder militar, eclesiástico y político que a lo largo de los siglos generó un rico patrimonio arquitectónico y monumental, el cual llevó a que en 1994 la villa fuera declarada bien de interés cultural en la categoría de conjunto histórico. Asimismo, destaca el notable nivel de conservación de su patrimonio paisajístico y medioambiental, de características similares a las del cercano espacio natural protegido del parque natural del Lago de Sanabria.
Está catalogado como Uno de Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España desde el año 2017 y pertenece desde entonces a la asociación homónima.

El Fontán es hoy en día una plaza de forma rectangular que está situada en el casco antiguo de Oviedo. Su nombre proviene de la fuente manantial ó fontán que llenaba la primitiva laguna que se encontraba en esa zona. En los inicios de la ciudad de Oviedo se trataba de una laguna natural a las afueras de la ciudad, la cual era abastecida por manantiales natrurales que brotaban en la zona y rápidamente se convirtió en zona de recreo de los nobles ovetenses. Durante este tiempo los campesinos que vivína en las afueras de la ciudad, se acercaban hasta este lugar a vender sus productos (leche, verduras, quesos, gallinas, etc.), con este incesante movimiento no tardaron en aparecer los artesanos tales como herreros, cesteros, etc. y así poco a poco se fue formando un mercado que perdurará hasta nuestros días y convirtiéndose por aquel entonces en el primer núclo comercial a extramuros de Oviedo. Tras esta primera etapa este mercado que se formaba de manera espontánea acabó siendo regulado por el ayuntamiento, el cual controloba la calidad y la entrada de productos a cambio de impuestos. Debido a que la laguna empezaba a representar un problema sanitario por su insalubridad se decidió desecarla. En la primera mitad del siglo XVII se decide la construcción de una obra de carácter público que se convertiría en un corral de comedias; tras sucesivas reformas y ampliaciones, que intentaron adecuar su inflexible estructura de patio de comedias, fue relevado por el teatro Campoamor. El 11 de junio de 1792 el ayuntamiento acomete una de las reformas más importantes hasta aquel entonces, esta reforma, dirigida por el arquitecto municipal asturiano Francisco Pruneda y Cañal, el cual diseña la plaza como un lugar rectangular, abierto por cuatro entradas y con cuarenta casillas o departamentos para tiendas, de planta y piso, recorridas en su perímetro interior y externo por un pórtico de columnas. La obra concluyó sin que se siguiera el proyecto inicial lo que produjo la existencia de varias alturas en la plaza. Los almacenes de las tiendas se fueron convirtiendo en viviendas de inquilinos y varios edificios se modificaron durante el siglo XIX aunque con ello no llega a perder el espíritu con el que fue concebida inicialmente. Ya a finales del siglo XX, en 1981 la dirección General del Patrimonio Artístico realiza una restauración de la plaza, si bien esta restauración no frena el deterioro en el que se ve inmersa la plaza y que culmina en 1996 con la controvertida decisión del derribo y demolición total de la plaza, execepto la esquina en dónde se asienta la sidrería Casa Ramón que había sido restaurada por el propietario. Tras este derribo la plaza se vuelve a construir y el 7 de mayo de 1997 es inaugurada por el alcalde Sr. D. Gabino de Lorenzo Ferrera. Hoy en día los jueves, sábados y domingos sigue habiendo mercado en las calles exteriores al fontán y en la plaza Daoíz y Velarde colindante con el fontán. También existe una plaza de abastos cubierta que abre todos los días de la semana excepto el domingo y en la cual se venden pescado, carne, queso y todo tipo de productos típicos asturianos

A record shot of Rosy Garlic, a new flower to me, seen growing by the footpath in South Woodham Ferrers.
Rosy garlic is a bulbous perennial herb of rough and waste ground, open rocky slopes, hedge banks and roadsides. A native of the mediterranean region, Rosy Garlic was introduced into cultivation in the UK by 1752, and first recorded in the wild in 1837. It is spreading, especially in S.W. England.

The pretty little waterside village of Bere Ferrers in south-west Devon sits at the side of the River Tavy just before it joins the River Tamar on its journey to the sea via Plymouth Sound. The village is about three miles north of Saltash and the Tamar bridges. At high tide this path is covered, hence the large puddles.
I believe this is a white stork (Ciconia ciconia) but am very happy to be corrected!
It is a large bird in the stork family, Ciconiidae. Its plumage is mainly white, with black on the bird's wings. Adults have long red legs and long pointed red beaks, and measure on average 100-115 cm from beak tip to end of tail, with a 155-215 cm wingspan. The two sub-species, which differ slightly in size, breed in Europe (north to Finland), north-western Africa, south-western Asia (east to southern Kazakhstan) and southern Africa. The white stork is a long-distance migrant, wintering in Africa from tropical Sub-Saharan Africa to as far south as South Africa, or on the Indian sub-continent. When migrating between Europe and Africa, it avoids crossing the Mediterranean Sea and detours via the Levant in the east or the Strait of Gibraltar in the west, because the air thermals on which it depends for soaring do not form over water.
A carnivore, the white stork eats a wide range of animal prey, including insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and small birds. It takes most of its food from the ground, among low vegetation, and from shallow water. It is a monogamous breeder, but does not pair for life. Both members of the pair build a large stick nest, which may be used for several years. Each year the female can lay one clutch of usually four eggs, which hatch asynchronously 33-34 days after being laid. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and both feed the young. The young leave the nest 58-64 days after hatching, and continue to be fed by the parents for a further 7-20 days.
The white stork has been rated as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It benefited from human activities during the Middle Ages as woodland was cleared, but changes in farming methods and industrialisation saw it decline and disappear from parts of Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Conservation and reintroduction programmes across Europe have resulted in the white stork resuming breeding in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK. It has few natural predators, but may harbour several types of parasite; the plumage is home to chewing lice and feather mites, while the large nests maintain a diverse range of mesostigmatic mites. This conspicuous species has given rise to many legends across its range, of which the best-known is the story of babies being brought by storks.
Seen at the Tropical Wings Zoo in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, in 2011. The zoo is now closed.
