Young Redstarts waiting for some food. The female is shown here.
/seen in My Garden
This sharply attired black-and-white starling has a pointed yellowish bill with an orange base. Mainly black upperparts with white belly and white rump noticeable in flight. Note the bare, deep orange patch around its eye that contrasts with its white cheek. Easternmost birds have a white, streaked forehead. Seen in loose flocks close to human habitation feeding on human refuse. Garbage dumps, damp grazing lands, and well-watered parks are its favoured haunts. Noisy with a variety of calls that includes mimicked sounds of other birds. (eBird)

As we were getting organized to start the morning's birding, this lovely starling flew into the trees along the highway and sang briefly. A great start to Dubai birding.

Crested Tit - Lophophanes cristatus
The European crested tit, or simply crested tit (Lophophanes cristatus) (formerly Parus cristatus), is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common resident breeder in coniferous forests throughout central and northern Europe and in deciduous woodland in France and the Iberian peninsula.
In Great Britain, it is chiefly restricted to the ancient pinewoods of Inverness and Strathspey in Scotland, and seldom strays far from its haunts.
A few vagrant crested tits have been seen in England. It is resident, and most individuals do not migrate.
It is an easy tit to recognise, for besides its erectile crest, the tip of which is often recurved, its gorget and collar are distinctive. It is, like other tits, talkative, and birds keep up a constant zee, zee, zee ,similar to that of the coal tit.
It makes a nest in a hole in rotting stumps. This bird often feeds low down in trees, but although not shy, it is not always easily approached. It will join winter tit flocks with other species.
Like other tits it is found in pairs and it feeds on insects (including caterpillars) and seeds.
Population:
UK breeding:
1,500 pairs
UK wintering:
5,200-9,500 birds

Have a great weekend!
Set off for my morning paper and found around twenty Redwings happily feeding in the tree opposite the shop, as I only live a few hundred yards away nipped home and got my camera and had a very productive few minutes in the sunshine taking images of them.
Ahn and I have gone on a tropical vacation. Read about it here.

This is the time of the year when many of these little birds are busy feeding cuckoos.

Black Swan (Cygnus atratus)
Lovely to see the Swan family at the Heathdale - Glen Orden Wetlands all healthy and well. The four cygnets are getting quite big now.
I am assuming that someone had been 'feeding' them before I arrived, something I really don't like seeing.
Mr and Mrs Robin have a hungry family to feed!
Since the parents were not too wary of me I tried placing a mirror so that I could see what was in the nest. It did work but I couldn't get any useful photos.

This is the male that has learned how to hold onto the fat ball feeder. Here it is giving its young some of the fat ball.

Male Common Kingfisher feeding one of his freshly fledged juveniles. A very rare thing to see - so having it happen in front of the hide, albeit at some distance, is wonderful.
Within a week the activity levels have dropped dramatically - almost back to 'normal' - i.e. you sit there for hours and see nothing.
A little girl having a ball feeding the pigeons in Piazza San Marco Venice. Since May 1, 2008 a municipal ordinance banning people from feeding the pigeons in the square went into effect. Since then, the local police have been discreetly discouraging tourists from feeding the pigeons without handing out fines - for the moment.
