Waiting Ages For A Train
I was back in London today for work. I’m not sure why, but I always seem to have to wait at least 20 minutes for a Circle Line train at Westminster in the evening. I sat there while half a dozen District Line services came and went. Not what you want at the end of a long, hot day and you just want to get home. More info. Ref: D1101-198

I was taking pictures at the 2011 New Year's Day Parade in Central London.
Now, it was a bit chilly, and a bit wet, but if you are really as bored as this girl appears to be, why not pop into the adjacent hotel (The Ritz) for a cup of coffee to warm up? She just looks really out of place I think.
I got the white balance setting a bit wrong here. (Though as I like the result it probably doesn't count as wrong.) White Balance was on auto. For later photos I had adjusted it so the picture was a bit warmer. I rather like the colder more muted tones here for the crowd shot. I quite like the noise that has arisen from ISO 800 as well.
But what do I know? I still look with envy at the quality (technical and composition) of many of my contacts photos.

Some fun with the lights, not the best, rushed and about as much space as a one meter square of floor offers!! None the less, the edits were also rushed so some minor shadows to be edited out.

Sometimes I get crabby. Mad. Grumpy. Grouchy. Pissed off. Angry. I am sick of walking in this hall of mirrors! Sick of being grabbed at by funhouse hooligans!
Stupid stuff happens. Cruel, thoughtless remarks are made. Boundaries are crossed without regard. Distorted projections get passed off as truths. What to do about it? I try my best not to get emotionally hooked by any it, but alas, here I am. OK, so what next?
My dad called and left a humorous message about seeing me on television tonight (see above.) I'm NOT a mother of three but I play one on TV...in a washer and dryer commercial that's been running ad nauseum for about a million years now. (FYI, I don't get any residuals.) Just about every other day someone tells me that they saw me on TV.
OK, so what next?
This is where being an artist/performer gets tricky - people often assume an intimacy with me because they relate to my work, whether it be onstage, on TV, in photographs, or whatever. On the one hand, this is exactly the point of performing and making art and I deeply cherish the gift of being able to create a connection with people so easily. On the other hand, it is also a huge obstacle for me to overcome when not "performing." I'm troubled whenever I realize someone is interacting with their own imagined version of who I am and not interested in finding out what my real deal is. I try to navigate this peculiar territory with grace and gratitude. Sometimes though, it just feels like a rip off.
I think that getting to know anyone's real deal is a privilege and requires patience, respect, and serious effort.

I had a great shot yesterday but unbeknownst to me my Flickr iPhone app froze while uploading and I only noticed this morning, then it crashed and I lost my pic. So I missed day 15.6. Thanks Flickr.
For today's shot the delivery truck outside the Montreal Forum says it all about how I'm feeling about the streak of rainy weather we seem to be stuck in. At least it leads to interesting shots! I hope photoshopping isn't against the rules... I was too tempted for some reason :)
