West Hollywood celebrates Harvey Milk Day, featuring the José Sarria Drag Pageant.
The City of West Hollywood presents its annual celebration for Harvey Milk Day and kickoff of the WeHo Pride Arts Festival (May 22 – June 30, www.wehopride.com/artsfestival) with the first annual José Sarria Drag Pageant, sponsored by the Imperial Court. José Sarria was the first openly gay person to run for office in the United States in 1961, helped pave the way for Harvey Milk’s successful run for office, was a well-known drag performer under the name the Window Norton, and founded the Imperial Court System which is one of the oldest and largest LGBT organizations in the world. The judges were West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne, Kiki Xtravaganza, Ebony Lane, and Queen Mother Karina Samala and Emperor Eugene Maysky of the Imperial Court. Host was Maebe A. Girl.
Drag Queens and Kings were invited to compete for the crown in 3 rounds: Formal Wear, Question and Answer, and Talent. The contestants were:

In addition to the Drag Pageant, there was Harvey Milk photo opportunity (backdrop photo by Daniel Nicoletta, featuring José Sarria, Harvey Milk and Mavis in 1978), and custom typewriter poetry provided by Pride Poets, a City arts grantee. Produced by the City's Arts Division with help from HIT.

Opened in 1962, Washington Dulles International Airport was constructed to provide additional commercial air transportation capacity to the Washington, DC region, and was planned by Civil Engineering firm Ammann and Whitney. The most notable structure in the airport complex is the Main Terminal, a Modern structure designed by Eero Saarinen, which features a catenary curve concrete roof suspended from columns on either side that lean outwards to counterbalance the structural forces of the roof, with the landside columns of the terminal being higher than the airside columns. At the center of the terminal is a distinctive control tower with a concavely curved concrete base, with multiple tiers of control rooms above featuring windows that taper towards the bottom and a large antenna atop the roof. The main terminal was extended to either side in 1996, matching the original design and doubling the size of the main hall of the terminal. The airport is notable for its use of approximately 50 mobile lounges, large multi-passenger vehicles, which shuttle airline passengers and crew between the main terminal and airplanes parked on the tarmac, which are each named for a different US state. The airport also features multiple midfield concourses, which were built starting in the 1980s, and vary in size and design from the older, lower concourses which feature gates that require passengers to walk on the tarmac, and newer, taller concourses that feature jetways and soaring ceilings, which are connected to the main terminal via an underground train system. The airport today serves as the primary hub for international flights in the Washington, DC region, with more limited domestic service compared to the nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Day 3 - Greco - Roman Wrestling
This is one of Europe’s largest wrestling tournament.
The TALLINN OPEN – is a youth wrestling tournament, featuring Freestyle, Greco - Roman and Womens Freestyle styles.
It was held from 24 to 27 March 2022.
The tournament was held on 14-mats and was hosted at the Saku Suurhall, Tallinn, Estonia.
Every friday we try to do a show and tell of cool things that have happened in the studio.
Here we see the effect Men Lu's new costume designs have on his fellow molecules.
Spotted this water feature in the local garden center a few weeks ago--I wonder what the tricksters would think if this was in the front garden!!!!!!

Well very mini cascade! Put the patio water feature out today - eventually. Got it out around 11.30, only to find the "bung" that holds the tube into the top jug missing.
Looked everywhere for it, including emptying the shed, all to no avail. Finally found it around 4.30 taped to the out side of the box!!!!!! Will pass over comment from my wife.

The George Hotel has existed at 25 Lydiard Street, Ballarat, since 1853. The present building was constructed in 1902 to designs of architects E. and B. Smith.
The principal feature of the three storey building is the triple storey, six bay, cast iron verandah. The main facade was originally face brickwork. The first floor facade is characterised by archivolts to the row of windows. The balustraded parapet has a semicircular tympanium.

Competitive Instincts in Pursuit of Technology
In its first 100 years, the BMW brand has created many landmark cars and motorcycles, and enjoyed huge success in motorsport.
This year's Central Feature, created by Gerry Judah to celebrate the Bavarian marque's centenary, features three cars which epitomise BMW's competitive instincts and pursuit of technology in creating the ultimate driving machine.
The BMW 328 was a highly advanced car when it first appeared in 1936, and quickly proved successful in both racing and rallying. For the 1940 Mille Miglia, a special version was produced - the BMW 328 Mille Miglia - featuring lightweight bodies in a variety of styles. The team swept all before them, taking four of the top six positions and setting a record average speed.
BMW entered Formula One in 1982, supplying 1.5-litre turbo engines to the Brabham team. The following year, the Brazilian Nelson Piquet became world champion at the wheel of the iconic Gordon Murray-designed Brabham BT52 - the first driver to win the F1 title in a turbocharged car.
Having provided the power behind McLaren's 1995 Le Mans win, BMW embarked on its own campaign at La Sartre in 1998. And a year later the BMW V12 LMR overcame strong opposition to take the race victory.

The plug was pulled on a town centre water feature that cost thousands – but never worked.
Time Wash was installed in High Street, Oldham, in 2005 as part of a £600,000 project to improve the area.
But the 23ft EU-funded stainless steel feature was hit by problems from the start.
Now town hall bosses have decided to demolish it – and council leader Howard Sykes has branded it ‘an embarrassment’.
The sculpture was meant to make a melodic whistle, with water shooting up each column.
But it was hit by design problems, mechanical failure and vandalism.
Now Coun Sykes has announced it will be scrapped, with the area being used for Remembrance Day and Christmas events.
He said: “Time Wash has not worked since the day of installation, it is an embarrassment to Oldham town centre and I will not sanction any further public money being spent on trying to get this ill-conceived and poorly designed idea to work.
“It is time this matter was brought to an end.
Coun Sykes added: “It’s important to point out that Time Wash did not cost the citizens of the borough a penny because it was paid for out of the European Regional Development Fund, and that cash had to be used for ‘so called’ public art like Time Wash.”

" IMAGINE PEACE
Yoko Ono, among the earliest of artists working in the genre known
Conceptual Arts, has consistently employed the theme of peace
and used the medium of advertising in her work since the early 1960s.
Yoko Ono Imagine Peace Featuring John & Yoko's Year of Peace
explores these aspects of her work over the course of more than
forty years.
Three recent pieces - Imagine Peace (Map) (2003/2007); Onochord
(2003/2007); and Imagine Peace Tower (2006/2007) - offer gallery
visitors to an opportunity to participate individually and collectively
with the artist in the realization of work. Consider the world with
fresh eyes as you stamp the phrase "Imagine Peace" on the location
of your choice on maps provided for this purpose. Using postcards
provided send your wishes to the Imagine Peace
Tower in Reykjavik, where they will shine on with eternally more than
900,000 others. Or beam the message "I Love You" to one and all
using the Onochord flashlights. Take a flashlight and an Imagine
Peace button, the artist's gift to you, and carry the message out into the
world. As Ono has often observed, "the dream you dream alone is
just the dream, but the dream we dream together is reality."
The exhibition continues in nine locations with Imagine
Peace/Imaginate La Paz billboards across the San Antonio region.

Ono's Imagine Peace project carries conceptual and formal
strategies the artist had employer from the earliest years of her
career, not only in her seminal solo works, but in her collaborations
with John Lennon. In 1965, she created works specifically for the
advertising pages of The New York Arts Calendar. Picking up from
her Instructions for Paintings, a 1962 exhibition at Tokyo's Sogetsu Art
Center in which she exhibited written texts on the gallery walls
designed to inspire viewers to create the described images in their
minds, Ono created purely conceptual exhibitions with her
Is Real Gallery works.
The theme of peace is also evident in works sush as White Chess Set,
recreated here as Play It By Trust (Garden Set version) (1966/2007).
Lennon's songwriting during this period had shifted from more
conventional themes of romantic love to grander anthems for the
Flower Power generation. The Baetles' worldwide satellite broadcast
of Lennon's "All You Need Is Love" in the summer of 1967 featured a
parade of signs with the word "love" in multiple languages.
The couple's most famous collaborative works, the Bed-Ins (1969)
and the War Is Over! campaign (1969 - 1970), were conceived as
elements of a large peace advertising campaign. The Bed-Ins took
advantage of the inordinate amount of press attention the couple
received by inviting the world press to their honeymoon suite where
they talked about peace! Ono told Penthouse magazine's Charles
Childs: "Many other people who are rich are using their money for
something they want. They promote soap, use advertising
propaganda, what have you. We intend to do the same."
In December of 1969, they launched their War Is Over! campaign, a
project that included billboards and posters in 11 cities of the world
simply declaring "War Is Over! If You Want It. Happy Christmas from
John & Yoko." As with Ono's earliest instruction pieces, viewers were
invited to transform their dreams into reality. Ono has explained,
"All my work is a form of wishing." "
