Ok, I'm doing something different here and posting some photos from a recent trip to Bosnia and Croatia that are not the best photos, but what the hell.

We encountered this old fort as we entered a bucolic clearing after descending from a low mountain pass heading from Slovenia toward Croatia. I found this interesting because it was just sitting there, completely unremarked upon. I can't even find a photo of it on Google Earth. In the States this would be State Parked, National Monumented, Roped Off, Historical Markered. Here, it just sits, probably used as a sheep barn in inclement weather.

Since this was a drive by, and impatient kids were in the car, I missed the best perspective, which was down the road leading into that mousehole door you see.

Notice the outdoor ceiling fan.

Making tomato paste at the market. This guy wulnd't leave me alone until I took his picture.

Took this in the keys... just got lucky.

This is an electric boat ferrying passengers across to the paths and boardwalks that string together the upper and lower basins of the Plitvice Lakes, a national park of naturally flowing and falling water of incredible beauty.

In Europe we often encounter electric boats because in many places gas motored craft are banned, lending areas an overall quiet that would be nice to have in the States. But then of course people couldn't be allowed to race around on their whiny personal jet craft, which I'm certain would violate some Constitutional Amendment.

Traveling with my kids, farm animals are always a welcome encounter.

The canoe we later used to brave the river.

Not so sure I like the all-glass shower.

That's the Ghanaian flag, in case you were wondering.

I love the grandeur of the arches as windows to the living room.

The view from the back door of our cabin. If you look closely, you can see Allie sitting at the table, engaging in an early-morning writing session.

With the added pleasure of seeing it with David Rengifo, Anna Garrett, Josh Sands and Christopher Randolph McMillan

Saddest day of my life,

This was where we stayed.

Right outside our river-front cabin.
