Ok, I'm doing something different here and posting some photos from a recent trip to Bosnia and Croatia that are not the best photos, but what the hell.
We encountered this old fort as we entered a bucolic clearing after descending from a low mountain pass heading from Slovenia toward Croatia. I found this interesting because it was just sitting there, completely unremarked upon. I can't even find a photo of it on Google Earth. In the States this would be State Parked, National Monumented, Roped Off, Historical Markered. Here, it just sits, probably used as a sheep barn in inclement weather.
Since this was a drive by, and impatient kids were in the car, I missed the best perspective, which was down the road leading into that mousehole door you see.
This is an electric boat ferrying passengers across to the paths and boardwalks that string together the upper and lower basins of the Plitvice Lakes, a national park of naturally flowing and falling water of incredible beauty.
In Europe we often encounter electric boats because in many places gas motored craft are banned, lending areas an overall quiet that would be nice to have in the States. But then of course people couldn't be allowed to race around on their whiny personal jet craft, which I'm certain would violate some Constitutional Amendment.
