Over the years I've been pretty lucky with the weather in the Lakes; even when it's been wet it's produced some of my favourite shots. But not so much this weekend - wet, flat light, grey featureless skies, and even my fallback wet weather location was closed. It was very much a couple of days when the wise would be skulking in tea rooms.
That said I did venture out, and decided the only way to treat the sky was to go hi-key (a decision made easier by discovering I'd left my grad filters at home).
Day 2 Shoot:
Using almost the same camera settings as my fallback, I tried shooting again. This particular shot had light coming from above and from the left. For me it has an early morning feel but not enough drama.

I assumed that most railtours passed through Dover, from one direction or another. So, when the Kent Conundrum was announced, double headed by class 50 "Hoovers", I thought about places round here to get the best shots.
Coupled with the late release of the timings, if was only Friday night I realised it was coming nowhere near Dover, and Margate was as close as it got.
So, Saturday morning was using GSV to travel over every overbridge crossing the north Kent coast line, seeing if the bridge was safe to stand on, and to find what the view was like.
I thin saw there was a foot crossing outside Birchington, with good parking nearby. From Google maps it looked perfect, but I would have to visit it first to make sure it wasn't restricted by vegetation or something.
Happy with that, and the fallback to go to Birchington station of needed, we had breakfast, and then I made sure the batteries were charged and the camera settings.
At half ten, I set off for Thanet, along the Sandwich Road, so to avoid the port traffic and the seaside jams at Deal.
I called in at the butchers for some steak for Monday, then carried on to Hoath to do a church, but really I didn't have high hopes as this has been closed the last couple of visits. As it was this time, too.
Seems friendly enough, in a small village, but the porch was open, the main door not.
So, on to Birchington.
The Sex Pistols, The Stranglers and Buzzcocks were playing in Margate, I found out late last night, so I though the traffic might be heavy, but off Thanet Way and into Birchington it was OK.
I stopped for a brew and breakfast in Birchington, but breakfast finished at half eleven and lunch service did not start until midday.
It was 11:31.
I ordered a brew and a slice of chocolate cake, and watched the couple on the next table finish their huge and delicious-looking breakfasts, apparently ordered before half eleven.
It was a short drive to the crossing, a path lead between two houses, and a style leading to the crossing itself.
I went to look at midday, and found clear views into the haze along the dead straight line for several miles.
I would have plenty of notice of the tour's approach.
Just before the tour's arrival, I was joined by a young guy who came to i phone it. By then the locomotive could be seen in the haze, forming as it got closer into the recognisable shape of a large logo class 50.
It mounted the light rise from where the Wantsum Channel used to be, and the rails began to sing of the train's approach.
Then it was on us, I switched to a video at the last moment, recording its closest moments, then swung round as it thundered towards Birchington and Margate.
I walked back to the car, then turned the car round and headed for home.
Not much to report, which was soundtracked by the previews of the afternoon's games and updates as Tottenham beat Citeh in Manchester.
Once home we have lunch of Cornish pasties and lemon puffs with a fresh brew.
Being Saturday, there's always football. And so to the disappointment that comes after the raising of expectations as Norwich lose to Middlesborough 2-1, and have a player sent off.
Sigh.
I cooked dinner between the end of the main batch of games and Arsenal kicking off against Leeds. That ended 5-0, while Craig spun tunes on the wireless.
Not a bad day.

The success of the BR01 left the fledgling arms company from Nar Shaddaa, Arch Heavy Industries, in a precarious place. With only one other design, a light pilot's pistol, under the belt at this time the pressure to perform was immense. Just maintaining production on the BR01 to meet the demands of the Sith Empire was itself a logistical feat. Yet within AHI there was an awareness that the next step would set the course for the future. Turning down an offer to relocate within Imperial borders that would've increased the efficiency of production and with it their profit margins, they instead chose to remain within Hutt space and develop a new design to offer to the Republic forces. While it was never accepted by the Republic army, the new design - the BC02 -was popular among mercenaries, guards, and adventurers in Republic space and was successful in its true intended goal: cementing a neutral reputation for AHI in political matters. Though this displeased the Sith buyers within the Empire, and would eventually see the BR01 replaced as standard issue for planetary defense troops on Sith homeworlds, it allowed AHI to continue to operate and sell within both Imperial and Republic space regardless of the tense cold war between them.

This is it. This is all you need to build giant, unique settlements. Obviously created for post-apoc builds, but will also work great for urban grunge!
This is the pack I wanted when I was a builder. I couldn't stop making stuff I thought people might need, so it's 30+ pieces with a few prefabs to demonstrate what you can do.
Kool door scripted double door gate (shown center), 11 walls including fence/screen/tarp, 2 sets of stairs in 2 textures to mix it up, a guard platform plus double platform prefab, 3 signs, 2 spikes, a random single tire for decor/stacking, plus loose metal and wood pieces and beams.
There's a lot. There is a contact sheet rezzed at the event so you can see everything you get, and I will have all the pieces rezzed (reduced size) at the mainstore for viewing. Each piece is 1-3 LI at rezzed size, with most walls around 3M high.
It's a bit spendy since I didn't think it would make sense to split it up into random packs, so it's a "fatpack only" deal. I put a 25% discount on it for the event.

This wasn't the shot I initially had in mind but a very tall crop in the next field prevented me getting anywhere near the railway so this was the fallback. The weak sun was some small compensation after arriving here in solid gloom.

In Bungie's 2.5D FPS Masterpiece, Marathon, you pick up your second .44 in the level G4 Sunbathing, and it keeps the weapon viable. It also gives you a good fallback in the hard vacuum of that level if you burn through your fusion batteries.
Ley lines are apparent alignments of landmarks, religious sites, and man-made structures. The pseudoscientific belief that these apparent lines are not accidental speculates that they are straight navigable paths and have spiritual significance...
(The irony of this shot is that right after I took it I was asked to leave the fountain by a security guard because I'd scooped and poured water on my head with my hands... and that constituted public bathing. I pretended I didn't speak English. Which is my standard fallback when people are being illogical. No habla, no habla.... and I ran away, but like Tom Cruise. Really fast.)
The Gorge is a given fallback during shoulder season (and much of winter) in the Pacific Northwest. This hike gave me a sobering awareness of how much of the Gorge was damaged during the fires of 2017. Much beauty, however, remains.

New for Nightshade, opening 10/18!
These are made to be HUGE, for points of interest on mountains, in forests, desert, etc! There are 5 models included, and each is 1 LI at ~8 M high! I sized them up as big as they can go (64 m), and they remained only 18-20 LI. You can make them smaller too, of course!
I included PBR and fallback versions, and a set for each with just plain runes and one with glowing runes. The fallback versions includes red, orange, green, blue, purple, and white glowing runes (you cannot tint them because they use emissive textures). The PBR version emissive glow can be tinted to anything you want.

This was a last-minute fallback based on an older MOC idea, since I didn't take the time to focus on building or further developing more elaborate ideas. This model uses pieces from all the 2003 Rahkshi, plus Jaller's Hau. the parts on the back are meant to be thrusters.
it's career day at my school tomorrow, and I got to choose two occupations to explore. I wrote doctor, and then my friends decided to sign me up for modelling, so now I must commit. It's a good fallback career haha :)
