In Irish folklore it is believed fairy trees are the sacred grounds for the fairies and as such are considered sacred and are left untouched wherever they grow. They are usually Hawthorns, as is the case here, sometimes Ash .
All night around the thorn tree, the little people play,
And men and women passing will turn their heads away.
They’ll tell you dead men hung there, its black and bitter fruit,
To guard the buried treasure round which it twines its root.
They’ll tell you Cromwell hung them, but that could never be,
He’d be in dread like others to touch the Fairy Tree.
A visit to Fairy Glen earlier this week. Didn't get accosted by the troll this time but a sweet old lady was in charge! It was busy with kids and wild swimmers but still a gorgeous place to sit and ponder.
It was still early on a bright February afternoon, and Chip (his parents were lacking imagination) was sitting down to a fresh cup of tea, and debating how many cookies he could get away with eating. Then a sharp tap sounded at his door.
Grumbling to himself, he went to answer it, a snappy retort already formed as he threw open the door. Dazzling white light poured in, obscuring Chip’s vision, and in stepped Queen Nat, the wise and generous ruler of Unicorn Forest.
He quickly bowed, not wanting to offend such a personage, and inquired humbly about the Queen’s presence in his home. In a voice like something stereotypical beautiful, Noble Nat spoke, regaling him at great length about how the evil crone, Sada Snowpaw, had unleashed swarms of fairies upon the region. Relentless, cruel, and ruthless, they were a plague..a plague of..DeathFairies!
As was her right, Queen Nat charged Chip with a sacred duty. To go forth, into the wilds of Unicorn Forest, braving lag, stupid people who insist on being pushy, and numberless (actually about 20, that’s all I could rez) hordes of the Death Fairies.
Undaunted, Chip gathered up his magical butterfly net, which was proof against every stabby fairy blade, and set off, determined to vanquish the minions of Sada, or perish in the attempt.
For the record, he kicked ass.
Featuring the Death Fairies from Tardfish, which are at Aenigma! Cute, stabby little things that fly around you. Well..one does, since it is animesh.
The Fairy Martins are happy we have had rain as they make their nests out of mud. There are plenty of puddles around now. This one had a steady stream of birds collecting mud.

With its gleaming, velvety blue-and-black plumage, the male Superb Fairy-wren is easily distinguished. These ‘coloured’ males are often accompanied by a band of brown ‘jenny wrens’, Adult male Superb Fairy-wrens are among the most brightly coloured of the species, especially during the breeding season. They have rich blue and black plumage above and on the throat. The belly is grey-white and the bill is black. Females and young birds are mostly brown above with a dull red-orange area around the eye and a brown bill.
