Robots were in action on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Penn State York when 35 teams of middle and high school students took part in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central PA Regional Qualifier, a robotics competition. More than 500 attendees, including competitors, volunteers, and spectators attended the event. The winning alliance, comprised of three teams, were the Javengers from Enola, Pennsylvania; Cubix^3 from Hampstead, Maryland; and Sparks from Villanova, Pennsylvania. The finalist alliance, or second place winners, included Imagine It from Palmyra, Pennsylvania; Metal Works from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and GearHounds, from York, Pennsylvania. This was the seventh time the campus has hosted an FTC event.
The Office of the Provost sponsored a Faculty Appreciation Day on Monday, May 10th. Dr. Sessoms congratulated the faculty on their strives to secure more research projects and elevate the profile of UDC. Dr. Sessoms also thanked faculty members for their continued support as the university continues to grow.

Georgakoudi's passion for using lasers for therapeutic and diagnostic applications was sparked in the basement of Wilder Hall at Dartmouth, where she pursued undergraduate research and her degree in physics. She explored photophysics as a PhD student at the University of Rochester and laser-based diagnostics as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT. Before returning to Dartmouth to join the engineering faculty, she was a professor of biomedical engineering and director of the Advanced Microscopic Imaging Center at Tufts. Her work aims to enable a new level of understanding of tissue function and dysfunction involved in aging and the development of diseases.
