Space Physiology

Synopsis: The success of any space flight mission depends not only on advanced technology but also on the health and well-being of crew members. This book, written by an astronaut physician, is the first practical guide to maintaining crew members' health in space. It combines research results with practical advice on such problems as bone loss, kidney stones, muscle wasting, motion sickness, loss of balance, orthostatic intolerance, weight loss, and excessive radiation exposure. Additional topics include pre-flight preparation, relevant gender differences, long-duration medical planning, post-flight rehabilitation, and the physiology of extra-vehicular activity. Designed as a handbook for space crews, this text is also an invaluable tool for all the engineers, medical personnel, and scientists who plan and execute space missions.

Jay C. Buckey, Jr. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School and an Adjunct Professor at Thayer School.
Henderson has been hailed as "....the real thing, a composer in the tradition of Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus, whose works have distinctive energy and melodica and harmonic character" (Toronto Life). A selection of his original compositions and arrangements will be featured in the concert, which takes place at 7:30pm in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall in the Accolade East Building at York's Keele campus.
Joining Henderson centre stage will be Joe Iannuzzi on drums, Pat LaBarbera on soprano and tenor saxophone, Alex Dean on alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, and Richard Whiteman on piano.
Henderson has been a seminal force on the Canadian jazz scene for more than 30 years. He has earned critical acclaim and legions of fans as leader of his own bands – the Al Henderson Septet, Quintet and Quartet – and as co-founder and co-leader of the groundbreaking group, Time Warp. He has also performed as sideman with many leading jazz artists including Diana Krall, Jane Bunnett, Arnett Cobb, Hank Crawford, Slim Gaillard and Flip Phillips.
As a composer, Henderson has created a large and distinctive repertoire of original works. More than 60 of his compositions have been recorded by his bands as well as other eminent artists such as Don Pullen, Jane Bunnett and Shox Johnson & the Jive Bombers. His accolades include the Jazz Report’s Composer of the Year designation and the prestigious SOCAN Award for Original Jazz Composition.

It's an annual Valley Catholic classic: dodgeball between the high school classes, with the winners taking on the faculty. This year, the juniors defeated the faculty, winning the overall championship. Following the championship round, the other class teams played each other in several friendly, yet competitive consolation rounds.
