Quite what an abandoned Burmah tanker trailer is doing in this field near Ashwell in Hertfordshire I'm not quite sure but it's been there for a very long time judging by the graffiti on it and the fact that Burmah stopped trading in the mid 1990's. I guess it's just possible it was being used as a water storage facility by the farmer but beyond that can't think of any good reason why it should be there. It shows on the 2009 Streetview so it's been here for well over a decade and I suspect more like twenty five years or more. www.google.com/maps/@52.0343295,-0.1461924,3a,75y,30.22h,...

This Photograph shows one of the passenger cars of the Brightline Train at the Maintenance and Running Repair Facility in West Palm Beach, Florida. Notice the Welcome Aboard Bright Green Sign.

These photographs show the new Siemens SC-44 Charger Locomotives for the Future High Speed Brightline Rail Service between Downtown Miami and Cocoa Beach, Florida with later expansion to Orlando. Service is expected to begin between West Palm Beach and Cocoa Beach in early 2018. Service between Downtown Miami and West Palm Beach will be be delayed at least a year because construction of the Multimodal Miami Station is way behind schedule because it involves multiple levels to accommodate Brightline, Miami Metrorail, Downtown Metromover and possibly Tri-Rail and AMTRAK. The extension to Orlando International Airport is still in the planning stage.

Brightline has purchased ten of the Siemens Charger Locomotives (with Options for eleven more) and they are currently undergoing testing at the West Palm Beach Maintenance Facility. The Palm Beach Station is just about ready for Passengers as soon as minor track alignment is finished.

My Photographs of the FECRS Tour of the West Palm Beach Station will follow this series of photos.

This photograph shows the Laser Ranging Facility at Goddard's Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory in Greenbelt, Md. The observatory helps NASA keep track of orbiting satellites. The lower of the two green beams is from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter's dedicated tracker. The other laser, although appearing to originate from above, originates from another ground system at the facility. Both beams are pointed at the moon -- specifically at LRO in orbit of the moon -- in this photo. The picture was taken on Aug. 1, 2009, when Goddard invited guests to celebrate LRO's successful arrival at the moon. Guests could gaze at stars and the moon through telescopes, talk with the LRO team and see new images from the satellite, among other activities. A number of hands-on activities for young children and their families provided knowledge and understanding of the phases of the moon, crater creation and the scale of the Earth/moon system. The LRO mission, built and managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, launched on June 18, 2009. Birthing Center at the King Fahed IBN Abdul-Azezz Women and Children Hospital in Gusau, Nigeria. The women are mainly cared for by midwives, but the midwives are trained to stop problems and consult doctors assigned to the hospital.

NAWCAD Trenton, located in Mercer County, New Jersey, consists of about 66 acres with a total of 96 buildings and structures. The center was used to test jet engines, alternative fuels, turbines, and engine starters.

The main "hangar" at NAWCAD. Im not exactly sure what this building was used for but there are slots in the ground about a foot deep and there are spikes and stands that stick out of them. It looks like you would brace something on top of them. You can see the slots better in this picture.

On a work-related visit, our hosts Cleveland Potash took us to their dry bulk loading facility at Teesport. I was able to capture the Dutch-flagged MV Hoop taking on board a consignment of road salt.

Salt was a useful by-product of the potassium chloride that was the primary output of CPL’s facility at Boulby, and it was distributed to customers in the UK and Northern Europe.

I was curious to trace the history of the MV Hoop. She was built in 1962 by the Netherlands for M.Damhof, Delfzuil, as seen here. Soon after my photograph, she underwent changes of ownership and registration, eventually becoming the MV Lady C, based in Anguilla. While loading cement there in 9/1988, she was wrecked (presumably during a hurricane) and broke up at her berth.

As part of an IAEA training course on nuclear security, an indoor tour is conducted at Japan’s Physical Protection Exercise Field, part of its Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN), in Tokai-Mura. ISCN training courses combine classroom learning on key concepts with exercises and demonstrations. Participants gained hands-on experience with real equipment and measures that States employ to strengthen physical protection of nuclear material and facilities. (June 2017)

Japan is a member of the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC Network), which was established by IAEA Member States in 2012 to facilitate sharing of information and resources and to promote coordination and collaboration among states with an NSSC or those having an interest in developing a centre. The 2018 NSSC Network Annual Meeting will be hosted at ISCN, 5 – 9 March 2018.
