Photo taken in Templeborough Steel Works, Rotherham, South Yorkshire which closed in 1993. It is now the site of Magna Science Adventure Centre.

This steel worker and his son were being photographed for the Families of Steel project jointly organised by Magna and the Site Gallery. Four local schools were involved in the project and I went along as part of the Brinsworth Comprehensive school team and took my own documentary photos of the event.

Philadelphia (8/21/17)

Wills Eye Hospital provided 2,000 pairs of free solar eclipse viewing glasses this morning. All of the glasses were gone by 10:00 a.m.

The first person in line arrived at 4:30 a.m. and was interviewed by several local TV stations. The line wound around the four corners, encompassing the hospital at Ninth and Walnut Streets.

A diverse group of individuals stood in line, reading, listening to music, taking selfies and attending to their pets, as they killed time before receiving their glasses.

Wills Eye Hospital was recently honored among the best Eye Hospitals in the country by U.S. News and World Reports: Best Hospitals.

Wearing lab coats and eye protection for safety, students focus on David Griffin, a lecturer in chemical and petroleum engineering, at the annual engineering summer camp.

“I took this while perched atop a small stepladder that I’d wedged between two fume hoods so the perspective would allow me to get all the faces in the frame,” says Cody Howard, who was shooting camp photos each day.

The campers were in the new Unit Operations Lab in LEEP2, a world-class lab that opened last fall for student and faculty research.

“They were about to do some hands-on work with ‘Newtonian fluid’ — a substance that can quickly change from solid to liquid (or at least more firm to less firm) based on the amount of stress and heat applied,” Howard says.

I guess I scared him with my 25 year old pistol.

One of the guys had a pistol that was 43 years old (very nearly twice as old as he was).

They still shoot ok though...

The results are in, and after weeks of working the front lines, USC Health Science staff test positive for COVID-19 at a significantly lower rate than the surrounding community, proving that Keck Medicine's safety protocols are doing a good job of protecting hospital staff and patients. Remember, safety gear is cool... or something.

Of course some people just put on two sets of hearing protection when flying in a helicopter and go to sleep...

No...this is the "do it yourself" version of protective eye wear and a face mask for removing old tiles. An early Christmas present, my daughter is redoing my fireplace hearth!

And the face stays warm!

Wind chills way below zero and I was comfortable!

Protect your eyes when it is sunny or when you’re in high glare areas such as near snow or water. Cumulative UV exposure may damage your eyes. When choosing sunglasses make sure that they are safe as well as stylish! Look out for the CE or BS EN 1836:2005 marks – this ensures that they provide a safe level of protection from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. Don’t forget to also protect children’s eyes – they’re more at risk.
