Eye Up. When traveling, it pays to occasionally look up. This is a view of the London Eye that many tourists could miss if focused too much on the crowds. photos. 5.23.2017. Sony A7II 24mm 1/2500@f3.5 ISO100. jaeatwitsend.com Spiva

Dark eyed junco with seed, Rondeau Provincial Park April 2017.

They are already back this year.

Rainy, miserable November day, over an inch so far, time to go through older photos.

Junco hyemalis

The Dark-eyed Junco is one of the most common birds in North America and can be found across the continent, from Alaska to Mexico, from California to New York. A recent estimate set the junco’s total population at approximately 630 million individuals.

I love this cute little blooming grass!! It has the tiniest flowers that you could easily miss.

I have some of it in my yard, but this was taken at a nursery.

I was on my way home from a photo session at a park, and couldn't resist stopping.....after all I already had all my camera gear in the car!!!

Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday to all.

This will be the last post for a bit, I'll be busy and back to work!

Have a great weekend too! On the blog

cwd221: Eyes - It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul. I'm not really sure what that means, but it's cool, right? For this assignment, let's focus on the eyes. Just to be clear -- the photo must include at least one animal eye (yes, humans are animals). No needles. No hurricanes.

Taken at the end of the worst day of travel in my life. We arrived at the Atlanta airport at 7AM to catch a flight to Mobile. We got bumped off of the 8:45, the 11:14, the 1:30, the 4:10, and the 5:36. We were finally allowed to board the 7:24 PM flight. All in all, our travel day took 15 1/2 hours. 49 minutes of which was in the air. Welcome to the NEW Delta Airlines.... yeah, right.

Male anhinga.

Blue eye shadow means mating season. Anhingas develop this bright blue around the eyes when they are in mating season.

The anhinga (/ænˈhɪŋɡə/; Anhinga anhinga), sometimes called snakebird, darter, American darter, or water turkey, is a water bird of the warmer parts of the Americas. The word anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language and means devil bird or snake bird. When swimming the origin of the name snakebird is apparent: only the colored neck appears above water so the bird looks like a snake ready to strike. They do not have external nares (nostrils) and breathe solely through their epiglottis.

The anhinga is placed in the darter family, Anhingidae, and is closely related to Indian (Anhinga melanogaster), African (A. rufa), and Australian (A. novaehollandiae) darters. Like other darters, the anhinga hunts by spearing fishes and other small prey using its sharp, slender beak. (Copied from Wikipedia)

The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over three million visitors annually. It has made many appearances in popular culture.

The structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft). When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel. Its height was surpassed by the 140 metres (459 ft) Sun of Moscow in 2022, the 160 metres (525 ft) Star of Nanchang in 2006, the 165 metres (541 ft) Singapore Flyer in 2008, the 167 metres (548 ft) High Roller (Las Vegas) in 2014, and the 250 metres (820 ft) Ain Dubai in 2021. Supported by an A-frame on one side only, unlike these taller examples, the Eye is described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel".[16] The Eye offered the highest public viewing point in London until it was superseded by the 245-metre-high (804 ft) observation deck on the 72nd floor of The Shard in early 2013.

The London Eye adjoins the western end of Jubilee Gardens (previously the site of the former Dome of Discovery), on the South Bank of the River Thames between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge beside County Hall, in the London Borough of Lambeth. The nearest tube station is Waterloo.

This ones an interesting one. Soap bubbles in the sink with back light and flash. A little saturation to just make the colors a little more visible.

Looks like the right side of an eagles face to me... How about you?

Soulis: Withered Black-eyed Susans. Photo manipulation. I found them at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. They were actually considerably more yellow and bright. I decided to add, among other things, some wrinkles and discoloration. After all, it is supposed to be a photo manipulation. Thank you!

Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

A visitor to my back yard early this past fall. I think it sees me, I am lucky to have not spooked it.

So, Sharpie or Coop? The top blocks of the retaining wall it landed on are about three inches thick, putting the bird at roughly 12-14 inches head to tail. The tail appears to be rather squared off, plus the streaking looks more like Sharp-shinned rather than Cooper's. All things considered I'm calling it a Sharpie. What do you think?

CORRECTION: A couple sharp-eyed Flickr friends provided evidence that this hawk is a Cooper's, not a Sharp-shinned. See the comments below. I stand corrected.
