This encounter with a blooming plant made me especially happy. When walking back to my parked vehicle, I spied a burst of yellow out of the corner of my eye. Fortunately I'd been taking pictures earlier in the day and had my macro lens with me. I sprinted to my car to retrieve my macro lens and spent many happy minutes taking in the thin filaments of white with their yellow anthers. As Henri Matisse said, "There are always flowers for those who want to see them."

Macro of sunset ... this is combination of two images where I focused first on the reflection in the eye, and then took a second capture focusing on the eye details ... both at different focal planes. I then overlaid the eye focus over the first capture layering in the pupil and iris parts onto that image.

This is one from last March that I never posted. Momma GHO tends to her nest and keeps a wary eye.

Thanks Kevin for pointing it out!

Barking Owl

The barking owl (Ninox connivens), also known as the winking owl, is a nocturnal bird species native to mainland Australia and parts of Papua New Guinea and the Moluccas. They are a medium-sized brown owl and have a characteristic voice with calls ranging from a barking dog noise to a shrill human-like howl of great intensity.

The red iris that gives the Red-eyed Vireo its name doesn't develop until the end of the birds' first winter. Then the brown iris the birds were born with becomes dull brick red to bright crimson in different individuals.

For this week I have used a picture I took a months ago (but never processed) of my little fur baby Emmett. Although it is outside of the rules I hope the moderators can let this one slide as he was unfortunately taken from us on 5/5/17

Please fave and comment as I would really like to see him in explore :)

Love shells and sometimes collect them. I like the central apex of the shell that make the shell somewhat resemble an eye.

The flight of a dragonfly showcases incredible agility and precision. Dragonflies are highly effective predators, with success rates between 95% to 99% when hunting. This remarkable hunting efficiency is due to their agile flight, excellent vision, and quick reflexes, allowing them to catch prey like mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects.
