This year my Oregon Grape cultivar 'Charity' gave me a wonderful surprise. It produced grapes, after several years with none. I had assumed that I would enjoy it for its awesome yellow candelabra flowers alone, which cheered me up each year in the depths of winter. Surprise! This year it produced beautiful but sour grapes in abundance. :)

"My extravagance is my garden - it's the first thing that I look at every morning when I wake up. It gives me so much pleasure."

~ Ina Garten

When I saw this showy day lily, I immediately thought of fall as the colours remind me of pumpkin pie. Perhaps I've watched too many baking competitions lately, but I think this lily could be a beautiful cake topper.

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving me a comment! Have a wonderful day and week!

Bumped into this while checking out some old stuff... it was never used (final one was this shot) but I still liked it. I would have liked to produce this shot a bit more (perhaps more significant background elements which say something, such as the chair which you can barely see) and I don't like the hair making some shadows in her face, but still, there's something about the tones I find interesting... hopefully later on there will be a similar chance to do something better...

This is in collaboration with fellow photographer David Martin, the collaboration worked quite well in the end, each contributed his knowledge to the final product. Client was a clothing store in Maracaibo called Extravagance.

These flowers are booming in my garden, a bit like Ireland after the 90s before Europe happened in the 21st century. I love the darker purple hues that are very much set aside from the rest that are pink and white. by the way, I do not weed my garden, I have this mindset that all things can live there, the assumption of what is and is not beautiful is not subject to my own determination of what can or cannot live there.

Many "weeds" have flowers and flowers are aesthetic, these people who have uber neatly cut lawns, weeded areas and only grow what they determine is beautiful in my view extrapolate from a narrow minded judgmental personality of the sort of person I would never wish to share a moment with.

But with that said I love all you guys! So I hope everyone is well and as always, thank you!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To dream of Ascalaphe is a little to believe in the magic of nature that combines and "mixes" at will, for our greatest pleasure the flight and the delicacy, the colors and the extravagance of the details. A true living "concept", the Ascalaphe alone is the ultimate compromise of complexity and beauty.

“Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me. I do not seek or conjecture either of them as if they were veiled obscurities or extravagances beyond the horizon of my vision; I see them before me and connect them immediately with the consciousness of my existence.”

-- Immanuel Kant, Critique of Practical Reason

Yockenthwaite is a hamlet in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The village lies in the Langstrothdale valley in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Yockenthwaite is 20 miles north of Skipton and 8 miles south of Hawes. Yockenthwaite lies on the north bank of the River Wharfe. It is better known than may be expected because a children's television character from The Rottentrolls takes its name from the hamlet.

Langstrothdale is a scenic valley in the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, England. The uppermost course of the River Wharfe runs through it, but Wharfedale does not begin until the Wharfe meets Cray Gill, downstream of Hubberholme. The name Langstrothdale derives from Old English and translates as 'long marsh' or 'marshy ground'. The dale was first colonised by Anglians in the seventh century, with Norse invaders arriving later. In Norman times, many of the isolated settlements were allowed to remain, but were prevented from expanding by an arcane ruling known as the 'Forest Law'. At that time, Langstrothdale was well forested, and the upper northern part of the dale (which is now moorland) was a royal hunting forest known as Langstrothdale Chase or as the 'Forest of Langstroth'. The dale became part of the lands owned by the Clifford family and in 1604, due to the then Earl of Clifford's 'extravagances', the lands were sold to pay off his debts. This allowed many Dalesfolk to purchase their own farmsteads. In the age before mass transportation, the road through the dale was part of a packhorse route from Lancaster to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The color purple is associated with a variety of meanings, including wisdom, creativity, royalty, power, ambition, and luxury. It can also represent magic, extravagance, peace, pride, independence, and wealth. As with other colors, purple is the subject of color psychology, which suggests that colors can have a powerful impact on moods and even behaviors.

After Chiang Kai-shek's retreat to Taiwan in 1949, Chiang felt it was difficult to accommodate foreign ambassadors due to the lack of five-star hotels in Taipei. He wanted to build an extravagant hotel that would cater to foreign guests. His wife Soong Mei-ling (Madame Chiang) suggested building it on the old Taiwan Hotel on Yuanshan Mountain, the site of the ruins of the Taiwan Grand Shrine, a Shinto shrine during the Japanese rule. Chiang decided on a Chinese palace-style architecture to promote Chinese culture to the West through its extravagance.

The hotel was established in May 1952 and the main building was completed on October 10, 1973.

This great mosque of Old Delhi is the largest in India, with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. It was begun in 1644 and ended up being the final architectural extravagance of Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort.

The Palazzo Beneventano del Bosco is a large urban palace, located on piazza Duomo, across from the present city hall and diagonal to the Cathedral of Syracuse, in the island of Ortigia in the city of Syracuse in Sicily, Italy.A palace at the site dates from the Middle Ages, when it was constructed for the Arezzo family. However, damaged by the 1693 Sicily earthquake, following its purchase by Baron Guglielmo Beneventano, the palace was rebuilt mainly between 1779 and 1788 in the Sicilian Baroque style.

Beneventano commissioned the design from the architect Luciano Alì, who transformed the medieval building, which had been used as a seat of local government, into a private house. Built around an enclosed courtyard, the internal courtyard has canted facades are adorned with twin columns, putti, and statuary, that accentuate the surface complexity with chiaroscuro.

The ornate design continues into the interior with sculptures by a Palermitano artist, Lombardic Gregorio, and frescoes by Ermenegido Martorana. To further create the air of fantasy and extravagance, huge crystal chandeliers were imported from Murano. The interior of the palazzo is not open to the public but can be viewed by special permission from the owners.
