Airmen with the 227th Air Support Operations Squadron, New Jersey Air National Guard, perform the night exercise portion of Fast-Rope Insertion Extraction System (FRIES) training from a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter with the 1-150th Assault Helicopter Battalion, New Jersey Army National Guard, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., April 21, 2015. The 227th were recertified on FRIES training by Soldiers from the Long Range Surveillance C Company, 1-158th Cavalry, Maryland Army National Guard. This was the first time the 1-150th Assault Helicopter Battalion has performed FRIES training with their own helicopters and equipment in New Jersey. FRIES is used when a fast exit from a rotary-wing aircraft into a restricted area, including water operations, is required. It provides a method for inserting and extracting special operations forces personnel when an aircraft cannot land. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Master Sgt. Mark C. First time visitors to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge are often shocked to find active oil and natural gas extraction taking place on a wildlife refuge. A person or organization that owns a piece of property may not own the valuable commodities below the surface if rights to these were not secured at the time of purchase. These mineral rights may in fact belong to a family or other entity that has not been on the land for over a hundred years. Rights to a proven oil field are not likely to be yielded.

Hagerman NWR recently celebrated its 70th anniversary and to my knowledge has never experienced a major oil spill that threatened wildlife though there have been some minor leaks that were detected early and corrected.
Hagerman hosts thousands of migratory waterfowl and songbirds each year as well as threatened or endangered nesters like Bald Eagle and Interior Least Tern and visitors like Peregrine Falcon, Whooping Crane, Piping Plover and Interior Snowy Plover.
On the plus side the raised pads and roads that connect the oil wells allow visiting birders, photographers and fishermen access far out into Lake Texoma and creates additional habitat for wildlife. KN
Inside the control room at the Tritium Extraction Facility ( TEF) on the Savannah River Site.
The Tritium Extraction Facility was constructed at SRS to supply tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen necessary for the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile. In November 2006, the TEF successfully and safely began radioactive operations. In February 2007, SRS completed the startup of the TEF and safely made the first transfer on new tritium gas to the nation's tritium inventory. The TEF is part of the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Defense Programs operations at SRS.

These are some of my dental forceps. They are used mainly for tooth extractions but you can also use them for self defense, repairs around the house (and the clinic of course!) and as implements of torture. I'm just kidding... well, except for the self defense part.

SES rescue exercise.
You are an SES emergency worker. You arrive onsite in your rescue vehicle. You know that a bus has been in an accident. It is pitch black.
You can't see the bus, the fires, the damage. You don't know how many victims there are and what their ailments are.
The team kicks into gear. Cones go out marking the area whilst the generators are setup and emergency lighting comes online.
The first wave locate the bus, locate the fire hotspots, assess the safety and then cautiously enter the bus.
They move through the bus, taking note of the doors that will not stay open, the blown airbag, the debris.
They locate the driver, a man in the first section with missing limbs, a man dangling from the roof emergency exit, the pregnant lady and the impaled person.
They reassure everyone that they are there to help and form a plan.
The second wave has news from the first wave, directing them to those that need help, in what order and what to watch out for.
Their plan is to maximize survivors.
They wedge the main doors open and begin.
The driver is removed on a back brace. The man with missing limbs is carefully moved through the bus aisle and out the door. The 8 month pregnant lady is in a lot of pain and shouting.
She is carefully monuvered out of the door but being 8 months pregnant is a challenge. The 63 pound man hanging through the hatch is lowered and rescued.
Meanwhile the injured are in triage and being looked at by a doctor not far from the scene. The man in charge is constantly assessing the situation and dangers.
Finally they need to cut free the impaled person. Then on a back brace, remove her from the bus.
All of this whilst the patients are in pain, yelling and screaming.
I performed the part of an annoying media person whom was keen to get photos but needed to be kept in check and monitored to make sure I also did not end up hurt.
This was only a scenario. It was play acting.Having said that, the exercise was very real. Their actions were very real. People needed to be extracted and the SES team had to solve problems and overcome.
They did and I was very impressed.
This was performed in a Mercedes Benz O305G 587 articulated bus on the SES Training Course.

Researchers extract juice from sugarcane that has been engineered to produce oil for biodiesel in addition to the plant's sugar that is used for ethanol production.
Plants Engineered to Replace Oil in Sugarcane and Sorghum (PETROSS) is a research project transforming sugarcane and sweet sorghum into dual-purpose bioenergy crops to ensure a sustainable source of biofuel.

Nasty bastard wisdom tooth! It's a good job this picture's blurred as it's disgusting and fell into 2 pieces when she pulled it out. i'm having to lie still for recovery which i really hate.
A simple tooth extraction removes a tooth that is visible in the mouth and easily accessible. Patients who experience chronic tooth sensitivity or are diagnosed with advanced periodontal disease will most likely require a simple tooth extraction.
