Inspired by an image from a book, Philosophy of Structure by the great Engineer Torroja, the project has long been conceived as an automated, iterative joint able to incorporate morphable, stretchable and infinitely extensible formal possibilities - as well as all AISC pipe sizes.
From an aesthetic standpoint we prefer a bio-mechanical look, while from an industrial standpoing we conceive of the jont being produced in rapid prototyping and made available via ftp download (or as actual parts from Shapeways) as an open source, low-cost method of space formation for rapid deployment.
The manufacturing of the joint could be via low-tech sand casting, direct to metal rapid prototyping or via more mass-production technologies. With one simple, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) we can optimize the joint for an active performative connection for its respective location and function.
We imagine extra room in the joint for fit-up, or even pass-trhough sleeving of pipe within the joint for Waterloo-type adjustability.

Studenci mieli możliwość poznania przedstawicieli firm, które w przyszłości mogą stać się potencjalnymi pracodawcami.

Mespilia globulus (Temnopleuridae)
Distribution: Coastal waters of Asia from India to Southern Japan.
Habitat: Coral reefs. During daylight hides among rocks, in crevices, or under plants in a sandy substrate.
Appearance: Diameter to 8 cm. Red to brown short, sharp spines are separated by ten bluevelvet regions where spines are absent.
Diet: Primarily a nocturnal feeder on coralline algae, also green filamentous algae. Grazes by
scraping with its Aristotle’s lantern apparatus, as do all sea urchins.
Remarks: Camouflages itself with various items such as rubble and detritus Pedicellariae are constructed of several small spines which have become modified to articulate with one another and function as snapping jaws. Each pedicalliria is typically found on an elongate and extensible stalk, and they reach out to pinch any small animals or body parts, such as the adhesive tube feet of a predatory sea star, that threaten the sea urchin.

This image was captured with a Canon 50D attached to a Painters pole with a 15mm fisheye lens using the remote shutter release taking images at 3 second intervals. The extensible painters pole was long enough to get a unique perspective on the wedding dance.

TJ and I are building a robot on the weekends, in order to create an extensible platform that'll allow us to play around with some ideas that we have about path planning, collision avoidance, sensor fusion, and machine vision. Oh, and to have a bit of fun, too!
