"Hold up the train. Munitions ship on fire and making for Pier 6... Goodbye boys."
Vincent Coleman worked at the station in the Richmond rail yards, only a few hundred feet from Pier 6 where Mont Blanc drifted ashore in flames. Warned of her explosive cargo, he returned to his telegraph key to stop incoming trains. He was killed by the explosion but his message was heard by every station from Halifax to Truro, alerting the Canadian Government Railway to the imminent disaster. The railway was able to respond very quickly sending six relief trains to Halifax the day of the explosion with medical help and fire fighters from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Coleman worked in the Richmond Railway Yard station which can be seen on the left. The large sailing vessel in the foreground occupies the approximate location at Pier 6 where Mont Blanc exploded. Everything you see in this photograph was obliterated.

Northern hawk owls are skilled predators. They use hunting techniques very similar to hawks and small falcons. Active mostly by day, they primarily hunt from high perches bordering open habitats. They can be seen targeting their prey with a visible "pounce-like" posture just before swooping in for the kill. In the winter, they have been observed finding and catching prey hidden up to a foot under the snow surface. Additional hunting techniques include hovering, capturing prey in flight, low contour flying, soaring, and ground pursuit. These behavioral traits paired with a hawk-like appearance are why this owl is called the hawk owl.

As most of you would know - my usual hangout is at the beach doing seascapes - but occasionally I do venture out to the garden and other parts....... :-)
Here's a macro of an agapanthus plant growing at my place.
I love the design of these - they remind me of a firework explosion, the way they bloom from the centre out - hence the title!!
Hope you like the selected shallow DOF too......
Much appreciate you checking this and my other images out - hope you viewed it Large on Black :-)
Have a great day..........

Una explosión, ya sea de un nivel leve, o trágico es uno de los momentos que si se viven con alegría o precaución, puede perdurar en nuestra memoria, recordando siempre que con el fuego no se juega.
