explore #458 may 6-2009

Prompt: A grand, painterly historical oil painting depicting Christopher Columbus as a visionary explorer. He stands on a rocky coastline overlooking the sea, wearing late-15th-century European attire with a dark cap, fur-trimmed cloak, and red garments. In one hand he holds a navigational instrument, and in the other a rolled parchment map. Behind him, sailing ships with billowing sails approach the horizon on a sunlit ocean. A globe, open books, and maps rest near his feet, symbolizing exploration and knowledge. Ethereal clouds fill the sky, forming symbolic visions above: a divine, radiant female figure in flowing robes gesturing toward the horizon, distant castles, and ghostly ship silhouettes, suggesting destiny and faith. Warm golden light, dramatic clouds, and rich earth tones dominate the scene. Highly detailed, classical realism, Renaissance-inspired oil painting style, epic scale, soft brush textures, cinematic lighting, historical allegory, masterwork quality.

PCA294 - Fire

Built a small fire in the backyard and then tossed in a old book I found in a dumpster. Upped the clarity and the shadows a bit. Cropped slightly. I took many shots of the book during its conversion into heat and light. I liked this one because of the way it morphed into some other entity before falling into ash.

Do you see how the leaf looks like a heart? This was actually taken in a barrel of water.

We used the "Antique" setting on iPhoto, if you're wondering.

The weather forecast was pretty grim with Storm Bert approaching (why do they always have such friendly names?), but apart from the biting wind and getting soaked, I am pleased we decided to go for the hike!

A shot from the MM Kitchen shoot that I really like. I love the watermelon colours, hope you do too.

This bokeh was caused by sparkling light created by sunlight and moving water on Kerr Lake which was the backdrop in this photo. The sun apparently was at the perfect angle, within minutes this shimmering light was gone.

Taken with a manual focus Takumar 200mm f/3.5 vintage lens.

I don't really care for this shot anymore. Sure the knife and dof is cool and all but I would have done alot differently today. Strangely it made explore some time back...

Sometimes it's fun exploring on your own. Sometimes it's fun exploring with a friend.

This was a standard shot with the figures out in the sun rather than in the shadows like the previous shot.
