I used to go hiking / camping as a teen and young adult. Now I am middle-aged and am a disabled veteran. I haven't hiked/camped in years. My fiancée and I started training for the Hike 100 Challenge in the late spring by hiking a local regional park to start. Then we hiked several state parks which included Maplewood and Jay Cooke State Park's in Minnesota. There are several miles of the North Country Scenic Trail that run through both parks. We racked up 27.3 miles of our 100 miles during our training. We left on August 26 for 10-days on the Superior Hiking Trail/ North Country Scenic Trail. We started at the Lake County Demonstration Forest. We hiked to the Baptism River Bridge in Tettegouche State Park with a detour into Silver Bay for pizza at Jimmies. Our last night we camped at the state park to use the facilities. Before leaving Sunday, we hiked back up the Drain Pipe to Raven Rock and back to Baptism River to make sure we completed enough miles for the challenge. We ended up with 112.9 miles.
