a week ago today, I was seeing this very sky and completely lost for words. standing on the lava, with my dear sister and our kind, story-telling guide, gazing up at the stars in search of the Northern Lights, with the freezing cold and wind sinking into my bones, I could not have been happier. :) Iceland is my absolute favourite ♥

I have plenty more pictures to share, so hopefully, once I've got them all scanned, etc, you'll be seeing them very soon! I hope your 2016 is treating you fantastically, so far, and that you're happy and well :) lots of love, Mari-ann xxx

An ordinary road sign made special by a swift movement of the clouds, at the Highway-1 near Gullfoss Falls, Iceland. Using a 15 Stop ND filter, I was able to create a long set of cloud streaks.

The west facing Seljalandsfall at dusk gets direct hit of a beautiful, pale sunlight and looks like as if it is made up of gold! Very difficult to shoot with this proximity as it throws a lot of water at you, the results can be really

An dilapidated jetty at Grotta, Reykyavik, Iceland witnesses a storm being generated at a distance.

Coveted as one of the best places to shoot sunset at, Grotta does give a photographer an opportunity to see both, the Reykjavik's city-line and the infinite ocean that touches it.

Eldhraun is the largest lava flow in the world. Spanning 565 square kilometres.

Captured on the black sands of Reynisfjara, Iceland. The Reynisdrangar sea stacks rise like guardians of the coast, shrouded in mist and myth. Long exposure with ND1000 filter, Sony A7III.

Photographiée sur les sables noirs de Reynisfjara, Islande. Les stacks de Reynisdrangar se dressent comme des gardiens de la côte, enveloppés de brume et de légendes. Pose longue avec filtre ND1000, Sony A7III.

"...Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away." - From P.B. Shelley's sonnet Ozymandias.

In 1973 a US Navy airplane crashed on the black sands of the Sólheimasandur beach in South Iceland. The remains can still be found on the desolite beach.

The image is best enjoyed large on screens that are calibrated for RGB colour space ;)

So I would like to enjoy the place - no tourists. This is unfortunately only possible with photoshop ;-)

Shortly after crossing the river Markarfljót, this spectacular view greeted us.

The Diamond Beach is a strip of black sand belonging to the greater Breiðamerkursandur glacial plain, located by Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon on the South Coast of Iceland.

The glacier is broken up and forms icebergs which are broken up by the waves of the ocean fill the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and then washed up on shore, creating a stark contrast with the volcanic black sand. This beautiful display makes it a favourite location for photographers and nature lovers.

One of the most beautiful 15m of basalt assimilations that I have seen, Hvítserkur, in Vatnsnesvegur, Iceland is a beautiful subject for any landscape lover.

I Am Puffin, Hear Me Roar (2016-06-14 23:34)

This was my first attempt at photographing wild birds with any sort of seriousness. I was inspired by the cuteness and vibrant colors of the puffins, and spent quite some time laying on my stomach photographing these birds near the cliffs.

Puffins are insanely cute, so insanely cute. And if you go to Iceland, it's imperative that you see the Látrabjarg Bird Cliffs, easily one of the most spectacular sea-bird cliffs in the world, and where millions of puffins in the warmer months go to, uh, do puffin things. I went with a group of photographers, and many of us were surprised at how fearless the cute little puffins were, and how close we could get to them. But not too close, or one could plummet off the side of the sheer-sided cliff.

And now, I will entertain you with some fun facts:

- Puffins only have their Technicolor bill part of the time, during mating season.

- They are nicknamed "sea parrots", or sometimes "clowns of the sea".

- Puffins are amazing swimmers, and can dive 60m underwater. So, like, that'd be almost 200 feet under the surface.

- The Látrabjarg Bird Cliffs are the westernmost part of Europe.

- Puffins can be found on menus of some restaurants around Reykjavik.

- I think this is the first time I ever seriously tried to photograph wild birds.

- I did not use any Photoshop Cartoon Function to make this fine bird look like Toucan Sam.

Nikon D610/Nikkor 28-300mm 1/640s f/5.6 ISO 1000. Special thanks to Tyler Heibeck for giving me a few tips on photographing birds, as I have never photographed wildlife birds before.
