Y esta, amigos míos, es la pequeña historia acaecida en la playa de Ytri Tunga.
Allí donde los bebés foca no temen a los humanos.
Un oasis de rocas y algas en el que animales y seres mitológicos se funden en uno para llevarnos en volandas a un mundo fantástico...
Tan fantástico y misterioso que nos ha tenido engañados durante todo este tiempo...
Sí, engañados!
En los mundos mágicos acaecen sucesos incomprensibles.
Animales que son seres humanos transformados en dioses.
Acontecimientos invisibles que se hacen visibles, de pronto.
Nadie me entiende, lo sé... y estoy muy acostumbrada 😋
Toda esta historia comenzó con una fotografía de la reina de Ytri Tunga, la playa de las focas de incógnito. Si, aquella que más de uno pensó que era una estatua. Si la habéis tenido delante de la nariz todo el tiempo... 😬 La recordáis?
Esa manera tan extrañar de presentar Ytri Tunga tenía su razón de ser.
Vamos a por ella.
Ahora os toca trabajar un poquito.

Efectivamente... 😱😱😱
Si esto fuera una película ahora vendría la secuencia en que revives una experiencia anterior desde otra perspectiva completamente diferente.
Tras una noche sin dormir veríamos amanecer bajo la tormenta.
Saldríamos a pasear después de tomarnos un copioso desayuno.
La niña de las focas sacaría una foto de las rocas bajo la lluvia y diría: "¡Qué maravilla! Hay decenas de focas protegiéndose de las olas tras esa barra rocosa..."
Pero, claro, para eso hay que saber mirar y ha quedado demostrado que nosotros no tenemos ni idea.
Bonita bofetada de humildad... Gracias por ella, selkies.
(Ahora podéis volver a admirar a la reina... Es la más hermosa de todas y se lo merece...)

Es una princesa de los mares del norte, sin duda... Digna representante de las selkies mitológicas.

A pesar de no percibir señales claras de focas por ningún lado, mi experto en el tema no cejó en su labor de otear el horizonte con su mirada de águila islandesa...
Para eso le traigo conmigo; no penséis que sirve de mucho más...
Bueno, echando cuentas, desempeña alguna otra función sin importancia... Veamos:
rastreador de vida salvaje,
conductor de autocaravanas,
traductor oficial en lenguas diversas,
agarrador de mujeres torpes en desfiladeros helados,
lector sacrificado durante las largas horas sin luz de las noches islandesas,
proveedor de sopa islandesa y otros alimentos igualmente asquerosos,
conversador y elaborador número uno de tesis originales,
compañero del alma de risas y aventuras,
aguafiestas en más de una ocasión (reconozco que no me viene mal cuando me emociono; soy un globo de ilusión y él, aunque me caiga fatal, es la cuerda que me sujeta a la realidad),
suministrador de cariño y mimos en dosis industriales,
arrascador de espalda (en esto es el más mejor del mundo mundial ),
GPS y brújula infalible e incomprensible,
avisador de peligros varios (existentes o no),
alarma para que no me enrolle más de la cuenta en ningún sitio y consigamos movemos aunque sea a paso de caracol,
cargador de bombonas de butano y cualesquiera otros enseres pesados,
responsable de mantenimiento en todas sus acepciones,
pagador de facturas porque yo nunca llevo dinero (bastante tengo con cargar dos o tres cámaras 😅),
narrador oficial de las noticias del día,
nexo de unión con el mundo exterior,
imaginador y realizador de sueños,
lector aficionadillo de mi mente enrevesada...
... ... ... ... ... ...
Me paro en seco antes de recordar alguna tarea más no vaya a ser que el susodicho lea esto y exija un merecido aumento de sueldo (negaré haber escrito esto aunque me torturen)
Pues eso, que el oteador siguió buscando pero no avistó bigote de foca alguno en el horizonte...
Ytri Tunga 8/...
Junto a este vörður nos detuvimos un instante a meditar sobre viajeros y deseos de buena suerte.
Si el vörður se ha construído según la tradición hemos de suponer que cada piedra la ha colocado una mano distinta cargada con su historia particular... Como yo soy tan dada a dejar volar la imaginación me entretuve un buen rato soñando con cada uno de sus anónimos constructores, imaginando sus vidas y los motivos qué les trajeron hasta este lugar.
Ocupada en esos menesteres recordé la leyenda de las selkies...
Según cuentan los islandeses estas criaturas tenían el extraño don de poder deshacerse de su piel de foca y transformarse en mujeres u hombres de belleza inigualable. Una vez que un selkie tomaba forma humana, ocultaba su piel de foca cerca del mar, entre las rocas, de manera que nadie pudiera hallarla.
Quizás seamos capaces de encontrar alguna piel de foca entre estas piedras... Os imagináis?
La leyenda asegura que, si un humano se tropieza con la piel de foca, puede someter al selkie de modo que le obedecerá fielmente. Esto no es tan sencillo como pueda parecer porque si el selkie llega a recuperar su piel huirá de regreso al mar tras vengarse ferozmente del humano que lo retuvo. No sé yo si nos conviene toparnos con un traje de foca... 🤔
Dicen los ancianos que muchos selkies abandonan el mar durante las noches de luna llena. Si encuentran un ser humano que les atraiga, bailan y beben con él toda la noche pero al amanecer regresan al mar. Si el humano elegido se muestra fiel esperando junto a la orilla durante las siguientes lunas llenas el selkie podría conmoverse y abandonar el mar para quedarse con él.
Otras leyendas aseguran que si un humano desea establecer contacto con un selkie puede lograrlo llorando y vertiendo siete lágrimas sobre el océano...
Como bien imagináis, la que esto firma no dejó pasar la oportunidad de llorar las lágrimas de rigor; ni una más ni una menos... Y calculé su caída con escuadra y cartabón para que cayeran sobre la misma ola marina. Por si las dudas...

Ice shards from Jökulsárlón, an Icelandic South Coast glacial river lagoon, that get washed back onto the beach.
First post from the ICELAND trip. There are many iconic places in Iceland and I had pleasure shooting them. But what is more unique about Iceland is that it has thousands and thousand of places that are equally beautiful and amazing. Also the weather here, that changes at anytime and everytime - making the same place look completely different by altering the mood.
I was driving on the Road 1 and (I think) just before Djupivogur I saw this mountain with relatively calm water-body in front. I was so amazed looking at this beauty, the wind was very strong, it was drizzling and dark clouds were approaching and I wanted to capture this mood. Somehow, I managed to take the off-road (not a big deal as it was short and very approachable) and drove my car down to this place. Spent some time understanding the location and enjoy it a little bit before I get busy with the shooting. The rain started to get more aggressive, but still manageable at this point.
I setup the tripod and took a few shots, but I knew that only a long-exposure will do justice to this shot and the mood I wanted to capture. But the drizzling became more prominent and I thought it is better to take exposure that is less than 30 seconds and not more or I will end-up with images that will be of no use due to drops that might get captured in the process. So I used Haida Nano PRO 6-Stops ND filter, giving me about 30 seconds exposure in that situation. I took at least 15 Shots (so I have more chances of getting image that has no or less drops) and now, while opening the files I found out that all of them have rain drops in it except for two images - What a relief! This place was unknown and I could find the name for it on the Maps, so this whole time this place was printed on my mind as "The Unknown"

Skogafoss Dream. Skogafoss is a stunning waterfall in the South of Iceland measuring 200 feet tall and 80 feet wide. You can walk right up to it but it generates a huge amount of spray often causing double rainbows!
