Here is another one of my favorites from last week's trip to the rockies. Here is a small part of Vermillion Lakes, just outside of Banff.
Such interesting scenery in the winter. This was the only area of the lake that was in liquid state, and it appears that there was a nearby spring as you could really smell the sulphur.
I tried stretching the exposure as long as I could without blowing out the sky and I landed around 75 seconds.
I removed a few pesky rocks, floating bits, and small lens flares out in post to give an overall cleaner, pristine image.
Follow the Sam McGee historic trail, into the alpine below Montana Mountain.
The trail was originally made to service the tramway built in 1905 by Sam McGee for a silver mining operation.
There are many remnants of the tramway and mining artifacts along the trail. The view from the top is fantastic, with Windy Arm of Tagish Lake below, and all of the surrounding mountains.
During another gorgeous day in Vancouver, BC CN Train 546 behind CN 3022 creeps into McLean Yard in North Vancouver, BC.
Of course it is not:) This place is St. John's Signal Hill. That day was very foggy. Newfies say - it's a mausey day.

We have been through Banff quite a few times in the last few years. It wasn't until recently that we have stopped just outside of Banff at the rest stop above Vermillion Lakes. It wasn't actually until this week when I realized that this was the area you see from Highway #1.
Every other time we have come to the lookout above these lakes, I have always been disappointed by what I produced. I was a little discouraged from that rest stop.
We decided to get right down there and once I saw liquid water, I was running out to the shoreline in the bushes.
I set up the tripod and dialed in the exposure. I dropped it all the way down to f/22 and with my trusty B+W ND110, I was able to get a nice lengthy exposure. The clouds were flying by quite steadily and I captured some good motion. I would have liked to get more than 30 seconds but they look good in the sky .
After doing some research on a DIY ND filter, I realized that I could better adjust white balance in my own photos. I used the 'Custom White Balance' feature and shot a blank white page from my Field Notes and set the WB from that image. The result was incredible. I will work that into my process each and every time.

The Rough-legged Hawk spends the summer capturing lemmings on the arctic tundra, tending a cliff-side nest under a sun that never sets. Winter is the time to see this large, open-country hawk in southern Canada and the U.S., where it may be perched on a pole or hovering over a marsh or pasture on the hunt for small rodents.
A coyote standing in a snowy, open prairie landscape, blending seamlessly into its natural habitat. With its thick winter coat and keen gaze, the coyote embodies adaptability and resilience, thriving even in the harsh conditions of winter.
The second supermoon of the summer, this time the Okanagan valley is extra smokey from area wildfires.

After roaring aurorae all week, I decided to go test my luck last night near Pense, Saskatchewan.
There were no light shows but I set up beside this friendly guy for a few shots and got some I really enjoy.
The light sources were from light towers standing tall from quite a far distance, which I find interesting.
