This is a shot from the vault I found after doing some work for my website. I figured I would touch it up real quick and add it to the rest of my Field Notes Changeover series of photos.
Taken at the iconic Moraine Lake in Alberta's Banff National Park.
By far, one of my favorite places to visit in Canada.
Hiking to Lake McArthur from Lake O'Hara This image is actually from last fall, but I got a request for it to be used in an upcoming project and so I thought I would share it here too! Hiking the Big Larches trail from Lake O'Hara to Lake McArthur during the fall. We had hoped to see the needles of the larch trees in bright yellow before they fell, but we were about 2 weeks too late to see the peak of the fall colors. I saw this peak creeping into view as we drove through the Rocky Mountains in Canada. I forced my friend to pull over as soon as he could, but as we were along the busy Highway 1, we ended up in somebodies driveway. I knocked on the farmhouse, but as nobody was home, I crept along the outskirts of the property until the beautiful scene was free of building. It was worth the detour.
Bluebird day at #westbraggcreek. -10°C air temp, great natural snow. Great grooming, but tracks were "well loved". @wbcta #wbcta #braggcreek #kananaskis #explorealberta #nordicski #xcski
@gbcta_ski Thanks for your efforts!!

Medicine Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Originally intended to be part of my timelapse from Jasper, this ended up being an unfortunate outtake. Shortly after I began, the clouds completely covered the sky. At about 4am local time when the clouds rolled in, but I set up and hoped the clouds would pass. The timelapse sequence is short and ended up looking pretty good, but didn't really promote the beautiful starry skies the park offers.
Some interesting facts about Medicine Lake - "Medicine Lake is a geologic anomaly in the sense that it is not actually a lake but rather an area in which the Maligne River (flowing from Maligne Lake into the Athabasca River) backs up and suddenly disappears underground. During the summer months during intensified meltwater runoff the lake (which during the winter months is a meandering frozen river) fills to levels which fluctuate over time and with the runoff events. Much like a bathtub that is filled too fast for it to drain, it becomes laden with water (lake) until it can slowly drain as the tap flow (runoff) is reduced (river). The underground system is extensive and during the 1970s researchers used a biodegradable dye to determine the underground river's extent. The dye showed up in many of the lakes and rivers in the area to the point where it became clear that the underground system was one of the most extensive in the world." -Wikipedia

Another homestead I found 20km east of Wainwright, Alberta. It's really cool to be able to physically experience how people used to live in the West. No cell phones, no internet, no cable TV..
