As fresh snowfall was forecasted, I loaded the 4x4 and drove up Black Forest. Within subzero temperatures I had a fine morning with thick fog in the valley, ice crystals on the trees and hot coffee in my cup. Enjoyed the absolute silence with very little wind and wildlife sounds and no other person around for hours. What a truly outstanding experience.

Strong winds with a sharp sizzle noise made this trip to the lookout point 40 meters above the treeline of the northern black forest an demanding experience. As I arrived, I saw the twinkling stars in the sky over Nagold valley and a red line of light on the eastern horizon. The wind was constantly shaking the trees, the tower and my tripod. So I tried to make use of the natural motion blur, transforming the conditions into something with a more painterly look.

After a long time I returned to the three sequoia trees not far from my home. Back in the days I found it too hard to shoot. But now, with some growth - both the trees and me - I found a pleasing composition. It is a view I have learned from shooting the giants in California: You rarely can show them in their whole beauty. It was a freezing morning with -6°C, some soft fog and the snow which really adds up to the image.

First, I visited a fallen tree on a hillside, but as the subject didn't work out as expected, I came down to the riverside. Here I found a more pleasing fallen tree with a nice wintry coating. Despite the photo isn't sharp from front to back, I quite like the scenery with the wild trees in the background. At the scene, the water of the river Enz was flushing and from time to time you hear the chatter of ducks.

Found here some dramatic storm cloud formation when cycling around with the bike. Well-worth the stop and enjoying the show. Love the painterly texture and golden color of the crop in the foreground.

After I have taken some shots with my OM-1 at a small lake nearby, this sweet Robin landed in front of me. Of course, all my gear was in the bag, and I had to change my lens first to take a shot of it. So, I said to myself that it will be flown away if I try. Then, I took my time, prepared the camera and managed to take some shots.

We had very hot days in June, with temperatures up to 35°C and high humidity. Cruising around with the bike up the hills in the evening brought some relief. Nevertheless, it was a very warm evening, when I composed this shot of the fantastic meadows.
