"Rulers of the New Kingdom (1550-1070 BC) are interred in elaborately painted stone tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Highly specialized state-paid artisans create these tombs. They live in Deir el-Medina, a self-contained settlement on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes. One of these artisans, a man named Sennedjem who lives during the reign of Ramesses II (1279-1213 BC), has created this magnificent burial chamber for himself."
