Did you know that the average depth of the ocean is 3,795 meters while the average height of land is 840 meters? Not that it's a contest, but...winning!
The adaptations of animals living in the deep sea are amazing. For example, this deep-sea fish, Photostomias guernei, has a built-in bioluminescent "flashlight" it uses to help it see in the dark. How cool is that?

We're Here and we are Exploring Space.
I thought I'd match up this 1957 book on Man-Made Satellites with a few Czech stamps on space exploration.
This "little" guy was found on a research expedition to the Gulf of Mexico in 2006. Think of how different things were back then, just seven years ago. For one thing, most of us probably weren't on Facebook at this time in 2006...
Now try to imagine where we might be seven years from now, in 2020. Determining a path to get us where we need to be in terms of ocean exploration is the goal of the Ocean Exploration 2020 National Forum in July. Get ready!

A Japanese Spider Chrysanthemum, again; a different type.
The name "chrysanthemum" is derived from the Greek words chrysos (gold) and anthemon (flower)
Chrysanthemums, sometimes called mums or chrysanths, are flowering plants of the genus Chrysanthemum in the family Asteraceae.
They are native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Most species originate from East Asia and the center of diversity is in China.
Chrysanthemums were first cultivated in China as a flowering herb as far back as the 15th century BC.
The flower was brought to the Western World in the 17th century. There are about 40 valid species and countless horticultural varieties and cultivars.
For many years, chrysanthemum signifies praise and admiration. A chrysanthemum is considered as a noble flower of the Chinese noble class.
The Japanese hold this flower as the symbol of the sun.
Wishing you a day full of good light and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)
