Défilant dans les rues du centre-ville, les manifestants ont réclamé l'adoption d'un moratoire sur la question.
Venus notamment de la Montérégie, de Québec et du Bas-Saint-Laurent, les manifestants, qui étaient près de 10 000 selon les organisateurs, demandent que les travaux d'exploration et d'exploitation effectués par les compagnies gazières dans plusieurs municipalités du Québec soient suspendus et que des études sur leurs impacts environnementaux soient faites.
«Je n'en veux pas chez moi, a lancé Kathleen Potvin qui réside à Saint-Louis-de-Blandford. Je ne veux pas être une victime.» L'an dernier, la compagnie gazière Junex a obtenu le permis de forer un puits à trois kilomètres de sa résidence. «Nous avons peur de la pollution, a ajouté son mari, Jean-Claude Roy. Il y a la rivière Bécancour à côté et les canneberges!»
