Experimenting with long exposures this morning at Rustington Beach. There was very little colour in the scene, so mono seemed to work best. It was a gloomy and slightly cool morning, but I kept warm by dancing up and down the beach as the waves came in!

Not to be outdone by Nikon Nigel I present my heavily cropped slightly photoshopped splash experiment. I can take no credit for the set up and flash trigger that helped create this.

An experiment - and a short break from the gloom of the winter Gormleys ...

I recently found an interesting link on *kday*'s page to the Orton technique. It looked like a nice soft effect so I thought I'd give it a go. I know I haven't got it quite right yet, but I think it might be worth experimenting more.

But I'm still not sure ...

What do you think?

.

I'm really not sure about this picture and so I'd be massively grateful for your constructive comments. Does it work? Is it under-exposed? How would you improve it?

If you have a moment, I really would appreciate your thoughts as I feel I'm in completely new territory here...

Many thanks,

Tom.

Many thanks indeed to everyone who contributed to this really useful discussion - I found it immensely helpful. Thanks!

Another experiment with flash photography.

I got the lighting a little better this time by using some silver foil to reflect back into the shadows. It was more difficult to get a sharp shot this time though, not sure why.

... but more like an accident. I shot this one using my favorite compact Fujifilmless Finepix F550EXR. I have no idea which settings produced this. (The camera has a quite nice almost self rotating dial which turns easily when inserting or removing the camera into/from its pouch.

This is a crop (ca. 90% of the original frame size).

View in black ;)

This is a view of downtown Seattle and Qwest Field from the south above Interstate 5.

I hadn’t visited since April 2010, but unsurprisingly, the image was not that different from ”Zipper" . Therefore, I decided to sit down with Adobe Lightroom and try my fingers at some selective coloring. At first, I just wanted to completely isolate the red light streams in a B&W image, but I liked how the other areas containing red color stood out (especially the lights at the top of most skyscrapers in downtown).

I will attempt some more experiments via flickr to view and gauge how you respond. Have a good weekend.

By the way, KOMO News (the local ABC affiliate news station here in Seattle) produced a commercial for TIA International Photography earlier this week. You can view the commercial under the “TIA Local” weblink below. From there, just click on the “Profile Video” to see the commercial. Cheers.

January 8, 2019.

This one is the third and last picture from the Mushroom-Experiment yesterday.

this one is based on a hard cap.

provando caminos ams sencillos, aun no estoy convencido con esto pero hay va avanzando.

I have been playing around and learned something new on Photoshop Elements (SHOCKING) - picture taken at Busch Gardens.

Shot with Nikon D3200 and Simpex 1200

This was interesting to do. A small glass bowl was used to hold the 2% milk, (higher fat is said to work better). Then the neon food color was added, then a q-tip with dish soap was added to make the chemical reaction with the fat in the milk. The twirls were added with a toothpick. Original color, no post edit for color. Sunlight streaming through the glass added its own texture.

*Thanks Herr Micky for the scan. :)

I found an old broken kaleidoscope and thought of experimenting with some long shutter speeds.
