Experiment Bight, to the east of the Cape Scott Lightstation.

(I did a trip to Cape Scott in April, and the weather was warm and sunny. I didn't even need the tent at night, the weather was great).

See catmadogma's "Dogwood and Raindrops". I hope you didn't mind, catmadogma, but I couldn't resist seeing what was in that raindrop. It's like another world.

Experiments in perception is a thesis project completed in Paul Sahre & Lindsay Ballant's portfolio class. It is a series of objects and situations that attempt to make others re-think the usual. It's over-arching goal was to test boundaries of logic, language, pre-conceived notions and social convention through the filter of design.

In this photo I experimented with the angle of which the photo was taken as well as the angle that the natural lighting was hitting the model

Lights on! This was a test piece created by glassblower Kenny Galusha so that we could experiment with different textures, colors and features.

I went for a walk after school to a field near mine, i didn't really have anything i wanted to capture in particular but i enjoyed messing around even if the shot is pretty basic

Redscaled Fuji 200 + Leica M3

This photo was a test photo for the following: shooting this lens at or close to its 200 mm max focal length, at f/2.8, with no flash, at a pretty high ISO (2000), and with some overexposure so I could aim for less noise, and bring down the overexposure in post. I didn't get to overexpose it as much as I wanted because just this was @ only 1/15 of a second and even with IS that is crazy low. Anything more overexposed would've either warranted me raising the ISO which I didn't want to do yet, or an even lower shutter speed. Overall I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. It's definitely less sharp than photos taken with this lens and with flash/higher SS/lower ISO, but it's not awful. How am I going to learn if I don't try stuff? This photo wasn't even supposed to be a real photo…I wasn't going for composition or anything…but after some processing including the b&w conversion I kinda like it, or at least his eyes. I am not sure about how much his chin got cut off, but hey, it's an experiment!

More Bokeh (not berries), these are in poor light and therefore it is assumed the quality of bokeh (boke) or out of focus will lessened by the ability to keep the core focus at high quality.

Image

All though this is not what is known as a Bokeh the camera set up performs close to the requirements, the main contributor may be the lack of light.

The image show traits of out of focus background even with a short distance between the focus item and the background.

Camera

focal length: 47 mm or in 35 mm - 324 mm

Horizontal focus set

AF mode: 1-area

Focus mode: Multi-segment

AFPoint Position: none

Image Stabilization: Off - this may be the deciding factor in some of the previous attempts as the camera attempts to render a stabilized image. Therefore attempts to focus the area selected.

As always comments, contributions welcome

Couple of experiments in low light condition. Use a Sony Cybershot DSC S 650 (point & shoot) camera. The only light source was a rechargable LED light from overhead. ISO was set to 1000. A piece of blue cloth was used as background. Color mode was set to sepia. Later edited in Photoshop.

SMASHfestUK 2018: FLOOD! returned to its home community - Deptford – for a glorious, 5-day FREE festival from 12th-16th February 2018. An enormous mash-up of immersive experiences, comedy, experiments, games, art, music, den-building, storytelling and much, much more for all ages, it was the biggest festival yet, with audiences up thy over 30% on 2107.

Here are pictures from the Deptford Lounge Venue. Check out the full line-up at: smashfestuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2018FLOODPROG.pdf

This year - Deptford was at risk of a big FLOOD! Climate change had driven a huge storm surge frown the North Sea. What would happen if the Thames burst its banks and Deptford became submerged? How would we survive? How could we escape? If Deptford turned into wetlands - what would we live in? What food would we live on? And if we got into seriously deep water and the whole Earth was under threat - could we find another home somewhere living in space?

This year’s activities included interactive science sand-pits, games, demonstrations and experiments, a sensory room, virtual reality space tours, a murder-mystery court case, a game of infective detectives, den-building, variety performances, opportunities to “meet the mosquitoes”, build your own hologram, our inspiring, family-friendly play, Cosmic Jives and much much more.

Last year, SMASHfestUK 2017: SUPERVOLCANO was a huge success, entertaining nearly 2000 people over the course of the half-term holiday. Back for 2018, we were even bigger and better than before!

SMASHfestUK is a STEM/Arts (STEAM) organization, festival series & movement founded in 2015 with the aim of widening participation & increasing diversity (gender, ethnic & socio-economic) in STEM & the Arts education and professions, & increasing social inclusion in undeserved communities, underrepresented groups, in neglected areas. SMASHfestUK couldn’t do what we do - FOR FREE! - without the amazing support of our visionary partners and funders. Around SMASHfestUK we’ve created a new way of bringing together funders, universities, community groups, schools, industry and cultural institutions and connecting them meaningfully with neglected communities. We’ve been touring the UK through 2017 with our SOMUCH/Earth and Sky Tour, building new collaborations and creating positive impact - building STEM and Cultural Capital (STEAM Capital) with underserved groups and underrepresented people, in areas with multiple indicators of poverty. WE THANK YOU ALL! AND HOPE YOU”LL CONTINUE WITH US ON OUR JOURNEY - FIGHTING FOR SOCIAL INCLUSION AND EQUITABLE OPPORTUNIES FOR ALL in STEM and the Arts.

Another fun experiment made by Oriol.

With this painting I wanted to experiment with form and colour. The shapes and layers present an overlapping view which naturally works well with the eye.
