Moody Experiment.
Some photos from a place you might already recognize, as there're many photos of it here. This time I tried to make something different out of the familiar views. After all, this is a landscape that probably is not scenic this time of the year. At least not for me, not in the usual sense. But of course there's a certain mood -- which might be something that comes out of myself, but I'm sure not without some stimulus, outside, it is really there, somehow. Can it be pictured? Can it be conveyed? How can you depict the actual first impression?
On a technical note: All done with old 50mm f/1.7 lens, all wide open, I used a Kenko nostaltone blue for diffusion and color shift. „Enhanced" in LR & PS.
Experimented with different ASA - some not so good. This year we are celebrating 100 years of the TT races, with a spectacular line-up of current and past riders, and the machines that rode them to victory. Big names including Ian “Hutchy” Hutchinson, Tom and Ben Birchall, Alex George, Jim Redman and not forgetting our very own resident MC, Steve Plater.
Here's one for my friend Benjamin. New street signs, but they have the block number blades! From a transitional period? Across the street are very short signs, either remnants or another experiment.

I was trying out some glass block mortar...I love the graininess of it, but I'm not sure how it will hold.
This is a 6x6in, and I just love the color of the glass :)
One more Fullspectrum Experiment:
I try to make the best of these days with the same subjects over and over again ... And I'm lucky I have a lot of things to do on my list: It's almost 2 years ago I got some rather strange IR-block filters.
Here I used the B+W #470. It's a blue-greenisch color, pretty dark. It's actually a technical filter, to be honest I didn't understand what exactly it was used for (maybe 40 years ago?), but I understand it blocks IR. On the Fullspectrum camera it's always easy to check this: If you see green more or less normally, IR is more or less blocked.
I needed to custom white balance there photos, again simply on the birches bark. A litte tweaking was necessary. What I get are very rich greens. Magenta comes bold, also, red is more subdued here, but it's not absent. I like the colors quite a bit, I tried to get away from a too extreme rendering, but still the cooler tones are somewhat dominant (or is it just me imagine that?)
I only used this one filter on a Minolta 70-210/4 (the manual focus variant of the famous beercan) and used it wide open (the filter needs a lot of light) and at it's minimum focus distance. Not too bad for an old zoom wide open!
O que se faz num sábado preguiçoso? Desmancha-se uma lente soligor 135f2.8 e faz-se uma tilt-shift "à la manita". Estes são os primeiros testes. Próxima etapa: despanchar uma 28mm que por aqui anda!

Experimenting with multiple exposures, in camera, with my camellia. Having had a play with this effect it takes a bit of practice to get a good composite photo.
This was the first in Kristin Prather's series of Science and Math Workshops. They are for Intermediate School students to learn basic math and science concepts through FUN activities and demonstrations. They will get to make rockets, search the stars, and test mind-boggling physics theories. Let's not forget playing math games!
March 15 (Science) : 3-6 PM
March 29 (Math) : 12-3 PM
April 26 (Science) : 12-3 PM
May 3 (Math) : 12-3 PM
All workshops are in the Activity Room in the Friendswood Public Library.
