Since this is not a bird that I see regularly, I decided to revisit the photos and find a decent one to post. A second look at Wood Storks that passed through the area this past summer. They really did pick the tallest trees to perch in, so it was reach for the lens and the photographer to try and get a decent shot of them. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou.

I'm not sure what he expected when he borrowed one of my books. Maybe lots of exciting stories about BIRDS and MICE and then he was disappointed because it's mostly a book about humans. He tried very hard to concentrate but apparently the storyline couldn't really capture him.

These lyrics are a good reminder that when we only strive to seek things that are perfect we miss out on so much. Snowflakes are rarely the perfect beauties that we see as Christmas ornaments. But they have so much to offer in their "imperfect" beauty. This heavily rimed plate is quite stunning despite, and maybe even because of, its imperfections.

The existing design of the Piazza del Campidoglio and the surrounding palazzi was created by Renaissance artist and architect Michelangelo Buonarroti in 1536–1546. At the height of his fame, he was commissioned by the Farnese Pope Paul III, who wanted a symbol of the new Rome to impress Charles V, who was expected in 1538. This offered him the opportunity to build a monumental civic plaza for a major city as well as to reestablish the grandeur of Rome. Michelangelo's first designs for the piazza and remodeling of the surrounding palazzi date from 1536. His plan was formidably extensive. He accentuated the reversal of the classical orientation of the Capitoline, in a symbolic gesture turning Rome’s civic center to face away from the Roman Forum and instead in the direction of Papal Rome and the Christian church in the form of St. Peter’s Basilica. This full half circle turn can also be seen as Michelangelo’s desire to address the new, developing section of the city rather than the ancient ruins of the past. An equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius was to stand in the middle of the piazza set in a paved oval field. Michelangelo was required to provide a setting for the statue and to bring order to an irregular hilltop already encumbered by two crumbling medieval buildings set at an acute angle to one another. The Palazzo del Senatore was to be restored with a double outer stairway, and the campanile moved to the center axis of the palace. The Palazzo dei Conservatori was also to be restored, and a new building, the so-called Palazzo Nuovo, built at the same angle on the north side of the piazza to offset the Conservatori, creating a trapezoidal piazza. A wall and balustrade were to be built at the front of the square, giving it a firm delineation on the side facing the city. Finally, a flight of steps was to lead up to the enclosed piazza from below, further accentuating the central axis.

I made my annual trip to Hobby Lobby this past week. I love looking at all of their Christmas decorations. My husband however looked like I was trying to kill him. ;0
The boys have been having fun batting around these mini baubles made of plastic. I bought them to go on a mini Christmas tree. I bought Mr. Moose at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago.

Didn't expect to get much today due to a lot of cloud, thin, thick and all degrees in between, this was a brief spell before midday taken at 11.47 UTC (end point) over a 5 min period - 1725 frames out of 20,000, using PIPP, AS2 and CS5 for processing.
This must have been at the beginning of the X9 flare.

So, I've just started blogging for Evil Baby and I don't mind telling you that I'm head over heels. They have a fantastic mix of sugary cute, geeky, and wickedly goth that I find irresistible! When I saw the Medula horns, their exclusive for The Dark Side event (on until April 31!) I knew I had to remake my cute faun avatar. I love the sheen and organic curve to them! And the Pixelated Earrings add a cheeky touch of dark to all the cyberpunk glow!
Expect lots more from this charming creator!
My friends probably expected me to take a photo of bars of chocolate for this topic - an obvious choice for me. But, amazingly, those bars were still on the shelf when I finished shopping today. I would like any of them, except chilli. Of course, I may need shopping again later this week…!
This month I've been given the opportunity to go up to the roof of Fort Dunlop as many times as I like as part of their 100th birthday celebrations. I went up expecting some lovely views back across Birmingham, but found instead that most of those views were blocked by pylons, so I had to get creative.
I made it up a little late in the day, but there was some lovely sunset light emanating from the clear sky, and the planes taking off from BHX would occasionally bank, cutting across the circular structure in the middle.
The processing is somewhat inspired by the likes of Neil Burnell, whose clean monochrome images really resonate in me. I had to work out how to get the best out of this, but it's really fun to do something a little different.

I wasn't expecting to see much today so I took the small lens for my walk around my "Lockdown" patch. Everything was going as expected until I was walking up Bay View Road when a red kite drifted south over my head. As I followed it I saw 2 more floating around then realised there were another 4 on the ground near the huge muck heap. As I tried to get a little closer another mob of around 14 birds appeared from the south west and then another group drifted in from the north. In the end I counted 39 circling around.
They were mainly distant but the odd one came closer.
They then all moved towards the sea then north out of sight; I read they went over Deal.
A very pleasant interlude in an otherwise uneventful walk.
Sometimes, fireworks don't explode where you expect them... Thanks to photoshop, I develop my own technique to put them where I want them to be plus combining this with my DRI technique.
Parfois les feux d'artifices n'explosent pas toujours là où on voudrait... Grâce à photoshop, j'ai développé ma technique qui me permet de les mettre là où je les veux en la combinant à ma technique DRI.

My technique is alway the same:
Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...
DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

DRI vient de l'anglais Dynmic Range Increase, qui pourrait se traduire par étendue dynamique améliorée. Les même 3 fichiers RAW entrent dans la composition d'un DRI. Plutôt que de se servir d'un logiciel comme Photomatix qui fait tout le travail, je me sers plutôt de masques pour filtrer l'éclairage dans photoshop et Lightroom. De mon point de vue, cette façon de faire donne une image plus naturel que le traitement HDR que j'employais auparavant.

Sometimes you find quality in places you really aren't expecting it.
I've been a fan of the French Dip sandwich since I was a kid. There's just something nice about some good rare roast beef served in au jus on a nice crusty roll.
Unfortunately, most places don't do a good French Dip. They use overcooked, cheap roast beef; low-grade salty bullion; and soft buns that quickly get waterlogged.
There is, of course, the occasional exception. That place that makes a good case for having inventing the sandwich in the first place, Phillipe, makes a seriously good French Dip (I particularly recommend their Lamb Dip). And, to this day, my gold standard for a good French Dip is the version that was made by the Harrison Roadhouse in East Lansing, Michigan (with extra-rare, cold roast beef on a delicious onion bun, served with a rosemary-infused au jus). Alas, the Harrison Roadhouse itself stopped making it more than a decade ago.
However, a few months ago I was in the Manchester, NH airport waiting for a flight, and decided to try out the recently reconfigured Milltowne Grille restuarant behind security. One of the items on the menu was the "Roast Beef Panini."
Upon ordering it, I found that it was basically a French Dip, and, unlike the vast majority of airport food, was well done. The beef was nice and rare. The panini bun was just the right level of crustiness to keep from getting soggy. And the au jus was nice and beefy, and not overly salty. And the cole slaw on the side was a nice basic southern-style (not overly creamy) rendition. Not perfection, but very, very good. Excellent when you consider the environs.
But I didn't have a camera that time, so I had to come back. This time, the sandwich was still as good as before.

PolaPremium had an awesome Black Friday sale. Since the SX-70 film ships from their US warehouse, I got loads more film than I ever expected I would have bought. I have a remaining 47 shots of SX-70 film around (compared to just 20 Spectra!), but I am still quite anxiously awaiting the release of the Impossible Project B&W 600 film next year.
I immediately loaded some of my Fade to Black in the camera and then freaked out. There's something absolutely daunting about that film. Now that I've done it once, I think I'm ready to get going with it. These are my Kallt lights. (And it is quite kallt - by my standards - here in the Bay, so it seems fitting.)

It's a bit blurred but I was only about 10 feet away and had just faced up to him with my lens before he hopped off. I was eager to catch a kangaroo on my recent trip to Oz but didn't expect to catch one in flight....!!!
We were expecting some sever weather, so I wanted to grab some shots of the circular flowerbed in the front yard to show off some of the flowers, mostly Iris, blooming. There's a mix of older blooms starting to fade, and new ones just opening up. I was afraid the rain would beat them down but thankfully they made it through, just a bit soggy.
The flowerbed is surrounded by a rock border, most of which our mother collected during her many "rock hunting trips" but over the years some of those Iris have grown outside that border. I think I've got some yardwork to do.
We wanted to share the good news with all of you and what better day than Mother's Day! We just ended our first trimester and baby is due in August! Stay tuned to see if it's a boy or girl and follow along on this journey with us. We are both so excited!
I wasn't expecting this shoot to go ahead. It was meant to be horrible weather today. This meant that, when I rolled out of bed at 11.15am this morning with a shoot scheduled for 12.30pm I had to, as the expression goes, 'haul arse'. 75 slightly blurred minutes later I was sitting in the back of my van with a double shot coffee in one hand and a copy of Frankie in the other at the scheduled meeting place, and looking foward to the shoot. Andy rocked up in his van, got out, we shook hands, and he pulled out his swords.
Yes, swords. At this point I was already stoked.
Strobist/continuing the story: I really wanted to have light like in an Ang Lee film. Unfortunately, I don't know how it's done, so I guessed (and I'm going to have to watch them again, and take notes). I just spent a lot of time playing, but most of the stuff I shot was with the 430EX about a stop brighter than the 285HV, in this case right and left respectively. I was shooting mostly at 1/200th to 1/250th, just to get as little motion blur as I could, but getting enough ambient in. A lot of the time I was wishing for a third flash too, but I think that will have to wait for a while (unless my tax return is better than I think it will be).
Okay.. i'm thinking to sell prints hmm [even if i'm not expecting so much people to buy them , but anyway ]
Please help me with some sites i don't know [ i heard about one that gives you a number of prints for free? ] I suck at these things so yeah please tell me, and also they way of payment =/
