I guess I didn’t expect my next heritage unit to be another black and white ACe with different lettering but it’s nice getting this shot crossed off the list

Torino (Piemonte - Italia): spesso le cose accadono all'improvviso e ci lasciano spizzati.
Turin (Piedmont - Italy): often things happen suddenly and leave us confused.
I had expected a fine morning but didn't expect the mist. Otherwise I would have got out of the house even faster. But this was the almost weird sight as I headed over from Biddulph Moor towards Rudyard. Strangely beautiful.
I was in two minds to crop the foreground out. What do you think?
Taken at Mud Bay, Delta, British Columbia, Canada.
After posting shots of most of the other kinds of peeps, I figured that a shot of this particular species would be a reasonable expectation.
Anything else would be 'non sequitur' to say the least.
Least Sandpiper
I expected to be just photographing this rose but the unexpected happened. This insect flew into view and stayed for just a few seconds. I think the insect might be a wasp but I'm not sure.
Back in the deep dark woods one might expect to be surrounded by any number of things. Trees, plants, animals, even the odd stream, what you might not expect is to find a world within the world. This photo is an interesting example of a micro eco system pressed into a crevice of the mountains, often overlooked, often ignored. The truth of this photo is that…. It’s only, at most, two feet tall. Not the main body, from the top of the photo to the pond. A little curiosity, streaming water along the path, so small you may blink and miss it walking by, hidden by the larger world around it. Take a moment to be amazed at this Babbling Brook deep into the Great Smokey Mountains, somewhere on the North Carolina Tennessee line.

New blog: I was looking for an affordable action camera and this is it. This camera is everything I would expect it to be.

It was a lovely clear frosty morning so I went for a walk across the fields with the camera. It was beautiful once the sun came up, just bitterly cold.
Expect at least one more shot of this leaf in the near future!

Expect the unexpected when you are in Bangkok. Like this man lying in a blue hammock underneath the strangler figs at the Ministry of Defense.
Wikipedia: Strangler fig is the common name for a number of tropical and subtropical plant species in the genus Ficus, including those that are commonly known as banyans.
Ficus has a "strangling" growth habit that is found in many tropical forest species. This growth habit is an adaptation for growing in dark forests where the competition for light is intense. These plants are hemiepiphytes, spending the first part of their life without rooting into the ground. Their seeds, often bird-dispersed, germinate in crevices atop other trees. These seedlings grow their roots downward and envelop the host tree while also growing upward to reach into the sunlight zone above the canopy.
The Victoria and Albert Museum: Examples of the works of Art in the Museum – South Kensington Museum – Volumes 1 & 2
Sometime ago I posted some illustrations from Volume 1 of the above book and hoped I that would be able to find those items in the museum itself and then photograph them. This will be the second set of postings. This time they are of illustrations 16 – 30 from the book. As usual I investigated the V & A Search the Collections site for any further information. This is what I found (photographed) or in the case of those items in storage or drawings, didn’t find.
I have used 1881 throughout as the purchase date, as that was the date of publishing of the book. I fully expect the clue to be in the museum ref, however I don’t suppose it makes a fantastic amount of difference to my posting. This is the first half 16 – 23.
I never expected to see a Yellow-sided skimmer in September since they are usually an early Spring sighting - if at all. She had an odd appearance from my first view here and I wondered if she was an old Spangled skimmer at first with faded "spangles". But then those yellow wings and the thoracic markings. The fountains are turned on at awkward times, like when you least expect it. It's great to walk around watching the bigger fountains except when the smaller one's turn on before your ready.
Here we see RhB Ge4/4 locomotive 632 shortly after departing Bever with the 10:02 service from Pontresina to Scoul-Tarasp (RE1932).
Time is of the essence to capture these loco-hauled workings as they are expected to be going over to unit operation from Autumn 2022 :-(
Sneak peek: 'Sensuality', the new exhibition @ Nitroglobus,
expected very soon.

I was expecting this marsh harrier to just fly through Summer Leys but as it approached one of the reedbeds it suddenly turned and dove down. It came up empty handed (or taloned?), flew around a bit as if looking at what it could have had for breakfast and then continued on down the valley
