Alas, it was only a Song Sparrow. Most of the birds at Amherst Point turned out to be birds that I encounter in Florida at one time of the year or another, with the exception of Black-capped Chickadee and Ring-necked Pheasant. However it was fun to hear and see an Alder Flycatcher singing in an alder thicket.
The big storm of '08 has hit!
All schools in southeastern Michigan are closed. We can expect 6-10 inches of snow when all is said and done. We have about 5-6 inches of snow here in Lake Orion right now (10:13 a.m.) and the snow is still coming down. It's windy so there will be drifting snow - we always get a huge drift of snow on our driveway ... lucky us. I haven't seen much traffic in our subdivision. I think everyone is inside looking out. The news stations are having a field day with all this snow. They are advising people to stay home and not to venture out. I hope the people who had to work today made it to work safely - and I hope they make it home safely as well!
The snow if awfully pretty and, it will be a White Christmas.
Not what was intended for today. As I type this, we should be in Sicily. Clearly this ain't Sicily. A whole mess of sh1t yesterday found us looking round for last-minute replacement holiday in the UK.
CentreParcs in Suffolk it is. Hey, at least I can take all my gear...

I did not expect it to be so impressive. I was on the CN Tower, i was on the Hancock and Sears. But i am telling you, this one is different. Being on the top of the building is a little different to standing on the top of, well, heap of steel bars, nuts and rivets.
Ok I expected the "Trees of Mystery" to be another complete tourist trap, and totally cheesy. I was wrong. It was actually really cool trees, and I actually learned a lot about redwoods. Definitely worth the admission price..

Our third day would also be a long day. Plans? Go see the "Trees of Mystery", then drive back south to do some hikes and then head back up north to hopefully wnd up back in Oregon before the end of the day.
