Not The Ashcan Alley Comic Strip. Just a teaser & a prediction.

i like to imagine the logo morphing into a yin yang.. if i were any better with compuers i'd have to animate it to do that!

you can take him wherever you go...but he vomits blood and has raging headaches, oh and syphilis.

I was listening to Depeche Mode, maybe not the best choice, gloomy pop music on an already gloomy day, and I was thinking gloomy thoughts at the red light outside the zoo. I'm a Michigan native, I'm used to this winter, but what about the giraffes? There is no winter on the Serengeti. How does a giraffe deal with this? The person behind me when the light changed green was not giving a shit about how giraffes deal with oppressive midwestern winters because she was pretty quick on the horn. I did get the shutter button pressed before that though.

On blaming and acceptance. It is only possible to blame, either oneself or someone else if one is in conflict with, in denial of what is. Once we begin to accept reality as what it is, there is no need for blame. For more, follow The Existentialist on Facebook. 250 word statement (this is also included as an image at the end of my 10 images)

I am applying to CSM because I admire how it embodies the duality of art as intellectual inquiry and art as practical activity.

My work is becoming more conceptual and the catalyst for this is my interest in literature and philosophy. My recent work has been informed by books such as ‘The Bell Jar’, along with artists such as poet Adrian Henri whose work includes text as well as images – a combination which I have been using in my own practice. The ability to articulate my ideas through writing is something which I am keen to develop. The convergence of critical writing with sensuous art practice, especially in the 4D pathway of your BA Fine Art, greatly appeals to me.

My current work is concerned with Existentialism, Absurdism, and an attempt to portray ‘the now’. Although this attempt began purely through mark making, my practice has now gone beyond the studio to include the creation of moments and situations, which I aim to document in various forms. This area of activity seems to relate to the XD pathway, since it entails getting out of the studio, and to the 4D pathway with regard to its central themes of action and duration.

‘The concept’ is essential to my art practice. I believe that Central St Martins would offer both the freedom and the discipline with which to investigate, scrutinise and variously formulate ideas; thus enabling me to realise my aim, which is to do ideas and make art informed by them.
