250 word statement (this is also included as an image at the end of my 10 images)

I am applying to CSM because I admire how it embodies the duality of art as intellectual inquiry and art as practical activity.

My work is becoming more conceptual and the catalyst for this is my interest in literature and philosophy. My recent work has been informed by books such as ‘The Bell Jar’, along with artists such as poet Adrian Henri whose work includes text as well as images – a combination which I have been using in my own practice. The ability to articulate my ideas through writing is something which I am keen to develop. The convergence of critical writing with sensuous art practice, especially in the 4D pathway of your BA Fine Art, greatly appeals to me.

My current work is concerned with Existentialism, Absurdism, and an attempt to portray ‘the now’. Although this attempt began purely through mark making, my practice has now gone beyond the studio to include the creation of moments and situations, which I aim to document in various forms. This area of activity seems to relate to the XD pathway, since it entails getting out of the studio, and to the 4D pathway with regard to its central themes of action and duration.

‘The concept’ is essential to my art practice. I believe that Central St Martins would offer both the freedom and the discipline with which to investigate, scrutinise and variously formulate ideas; thus enabling me to realise my aim, which is to do ideas and make art informed by them.

Yoshimoto's first novel, Kitchen, was published in 1987 and was an instant success in Japan. Kitchen chronicles the life of a young Japanese woman after the death of her grandmother and captures the essence of Japanese Existentialism. The book itself has been translated into several languages and is extensively popular in Japan.

I've got the tiniest bit of breathing room in my life and it's allowed me to think about the big questions (i.e., why am I here, what does anything mean, etc.)...

Mearsy and Priya are pretty photogenic people on their own, but put them together, and they become Dy-NO- MITE! They really are as fun/nice/beautiful/amazing as they look on film. Mearsy is all about the existentialism and Priya is great to talk to if you wanna socially analyse today’s “indie” culture.

The secret of living is hidden

in the quiet dream of death.

Between shadow and thought,

existence writes itself in silence.

We do not escape the end —

we breathe through it,

and call that breath life.

Multiple-family use welcome!

Purchase this package and you and your partner will have the opportunity to, always already, enjoy a heteronormative romantic evening while knowing your children are at home learning to topple binaric hierarchies and deftly add provoking (paren)theses and seemingly in-finite hyphens to their spelling words. When you return home, you will be delighted with the differance in your children's behavior after coming to terms with their own monoligualism and that of the other and relieved themselves of any illusions of a transcendental signifier. Though I'll leave not a trace, additional sessions are encouraged to address lasting impressions of archive fever and a somewhat fraught relationship to the family pet due to the animals that therefore they are. Can negotiate to exchange Derridean deconstruction for Sartrean existentialism or Foucauldian discourse analysis. For older pupils (say, 10-12 years of age), co-retranslations of Derrida's original French is an option, for an additional fee used to hire a different babysitter.
