MAY 24 2009 -- At the inaugural commencement exercises of the Elon University School of Law, 107 members of the charter class received their Juris Doctor degrees, marking a major milestone for the school founded on the principle that a legal education should prepare students to be not only excellence lawyers but also leaders in their communities. David Gergen received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the ceremony, and delivered the commencement address.
Noel L. Allen, a member of the Elon University Board of Trustees and the Law School Advisory Board, provided welcoming remarks at the ceremony. Melanie Y. Crenshaw delivered the student address.
