After the occupation of Lithuania by Nazi Germany, the fort was used as a place of execution for Jews, captured Soviets, and others.

The execution wall in Auschwitz I. Jews and undesireables were executed here, against this wall, children first while their parents had to watch. Seeing this gives me hope for humans. Though we are capable of extreme evil this picture tells me that most of us desire to do good and chooses to do so.

What is he doing there? I actually have the photo set showing the layout. He basically executed an 'attack' on yours truly. I was so busy tracking him and taking photos, I did not realize he was tracking me until he flew at me...struck my stand with surprising force. I quickly disengaged my camera and took more shots as climbed to the top. Left him there for a few minutes to photograph a funnel spider close by. When I came back to the stand, he was nowhere to be found. I guess that was his way of saying 'shove off lad'.
