14-The Brandenburg Prison execution room, a reminder that 1,700+ political victims of the Nazi regime were executed here. This sign is still from the East German times, they preferred the term antifascist vice Nazi.

Carl is so completely back in the zone. In his words:

Here [is] my F2H-5 swept wing Banshee. The Banshee is the old 1/72 Airfix kit. I was going to sell it but it got a stay of execution. I could have used F-86 wings but to stay within the reality of the early navy birds, I went with a look similar to the F9F Cougar.

The wings and horizontal stabs are from the Hasegawa Fuji T-1. Of all the wing surgery I have done to date, this has been so far the easiest cut and attach. The chord depth and thickness were really close. A nice blend of the leading edges.

I [used] T-1 landing gear which will provide more ground clearance.

Painting is: Xtracrylix Gloss Sea Blue via hairy stick. coated with Future.

I'm calling my Argentinian Armada Banshee build done. And due to popular demand there will be a F2H-6 (F2H-4) in RCN colours.

The Strugglers Inn, 83 Westgate, Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

Built in 1836 it is purported to have been named after victims struggling while being taken for execution to the north near Cuthberts Yard, but the pub was not in existence when executions took place there. Cobb Hall in the Castle was the setting for hangings (The "Drop") when the pub was built.

The pubs name has slightly altered over the years starting as the Struggler 1838; the Struggler Beer Shop 1857; Bold Struggler in 1863, the Struggler 1877; the Struggler Beer House 1885; before becoming the Struggler Inn in 1899. The s was added to the end of The Struggler in recent years.

Burton and Lincoln Breweries owned the pub in the 1890s before being taken over by Hewitts of Grimsby owned the pub c1900. Alterations took place in 1924 for Warwicks and Richardsons Ltd.

from Tour Through the Whole Island of Great Britain (1727):

The force of this engine is so strong, the head of the ax being loaded with a weight of lead to make it fall heavy, and the execution is so sure, that it takes away all possibility of its failing to cut off the head; and to this purpose, the Hallifax people tell you another story of a country woman, who was riding by upon her doffers or hampers to Hallifax Market, for the execution was always on a market day (the third after the fact) and passing just as the ax was let fall upon the neck of the criminal, it chopt it thro' with such force, that the head jumpt off into one of her hampers, and that the woman not perceiving it, she carry'd it away to the market.

All the use I shall make of this unlikely story, is this, that it seems executions were so frequent, that it was not thought a sight worth the peoples running out to see; that the woman should ride along so close to the scaffold, and that she should go on, and not so much as stop to see the ax fall, or take any notice of it. But those difficulties seem to be much better solved, by saying, that 'tis as reasonable to think the whole tale is a little Yorkshire, which, I suppose, you will understand well enough.

Execution columns. Communist prisons were in the cellar of the building (and that of the neighbouring buildings, too, the entire block). / Akasztófák. A börtöncellák a ház pincéjében voltak - annak idején az egész háztömböt elfoglalták.

A visit to the House of Terror Museum at 60 Andrassy Street in Budapest, Hungary. This building was the headquarters of the Hungarian Nazi Party (Arrow Cross Party) and subsequently that of the Political Police of the Communist Party until 1956. Hundreds of people were tortured and even killed here from 1944 to the early 50's - the building was restored as an educational institute with very few artifacts, but with many suggestive arrangements and video footage. Surprisingly, it is very popular with tourists, and since it was famous enough, I also took my kids here in August 2014.

Execution Rocks Lighthouse is located in Long Island Sound. Legend has it that the British used to chain prisoners to the rocks at low tide and wait for them to drown as the tide came in. The lighthouse was built in the 1840's and recently handed over to a non-profit for restoration. It is a 30 minute boat ride away from the shore, and has no electricity or running water, plus it is rumored to be haunted.

The hunter, hiding in the bushes, shot down a Canada Goose as it flew over. The goose was only wounded and could not fly, but it tried to run. Standing well behind the fearsome beast the mighty hunter shot it again, then carried the corpse off in triumph, to feed his starving family.

Execution chamber of Plötzensee Prison, built in 1870s, and used by Nazi courts to eliminate enemies of the state. Between 1933 and 1945 nearly 2,900 people, mostly members of German and foreign resistance groups, were put to death by guillotine or by being hanged from meat hooks set on a steel beam. They included 89 conspirators and helpers involved in the failed 20 July 1944 bomb plot against Hitler.

"The Royal Palace of Amsterdam in Amsterdam (Dutch: Koninklijk Paleis van Amsterdam or Paleis op de Dam) is one of three palaces in the Netherlands which are at the disposal of the monarch by Act of Parliament. It is situated on the west side of Dam Square in the centre of Amsterdam, opposite the War Memorial and next to the Nieuwe Kerk.

"The palace was built as a city hall during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. The building became the royal palace of King Louis Napoleon and later of the Dutch Royal House.

"The structure was built as the Town Hall of the City of Amsterdam 'facing the landing wharfs along Damrak, which at that time would have been busy with ships'. The town hall was opened on 29 July 1655 by Cornelis de Graeff, the mayor of Amsterdam. The main architect was Jacob van Campen, who took control of the construction project in 1648.

"After the patriot revolution which swept the House of Orange from power a decade earlier, the new Batavian Republic was forced to accept Louis Napoleon, brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, as King Louis I of Holland in 1806. After holding his court at The Hague and Utrecht, Louis Napoleon moved to Amsterdam, and converted the Town Hall into a royal palace for himself.

"The King of Holland did not have long to appreciate his new palace. He abdicated on 2 July 1810; his son, Napoleon Louis Bonaparte, then succeeded him, as King Louis II, before the Netherlands were annexed by France ten days later. The palace then became home to the French governor, Charles François Lebrun.

"Prince William VI (son of Prince William V of Orange), returned to the Netherlands in 1813, after Napoleon fell from power, and restored the palace to its original owners. After his investiture as King William I of the Netherlands, however, Amsterdam was made the official capital of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands (the seats of government being Brussels and The Hague). The new king realised the importance of having a palace in the capital, and the Town Hall again became a royal palace."
