Since Luna hardly can move when she's feeding the kittens (almost 24/7) we try to keep her busy when she takes a break from being mom.
Most of the time these breaks last just 15 minutes, then she returns to the bench. [if one of the kittens cries she is back in the den in a matter of miliseconds.. okay perhaps a bit longer but not much more]
We had a communications excercise this morning involving threats at various venues. Our mission was to establish communications support and interoperability between different agencies including FBI, Homeland Security, ATF, and local police, fire, and bomb units as well as link in the other incident locations. Basically, we give everyone the ability to talk to one another.
One component of the scenario was the requirement of mission critical equipment that needed to be on the scene as soon as possible. That's where me and Ivan got a ride from the US Park Police helicopter: Eagle 2. They picked us up in Gaithersburg and we were at our scene location within 10 minutes.

My Great Grandfathers excercise book. This the exercise book of my mother's father's father. It is dated Midsummer 1860 in Scarborough. My mother passed this to me as I had taken on the mantel of family historian and I think she knew her time was near. It is actually a miracle it survives at all as she posted it to me and didn't mention it and I found it on our doorstep after about 3 days (and it had been raining). It is something she held dear because it many ways it was her only link to her father, who had died when she was around 8 years old. She later found out he was not married to her mother. This meant that she quickly lost contact with his family (Smithsons) and knew little of this side of the family. I am so touched I have this, as it is a window to a part of my heritage I know little about and I know caused my mother some pain in later life.

Here is the HMCS TORONTO as they do a forces protechtion excercise on there way to Rota Spain during Operation SEXTANT.
Operation SEXTANT primary mission is to provide a high readiness Naval Reaction Force (NRF) to respond to international crises, which fall under the purview of NATO. These may potentilly include Humanitarian Operation such as Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) or Disater Assistance Operation, Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO), Presence Operations, Anti-Piracy\Anti-Smuggling Patrol, buliding of Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) and potentially Combat Patrols in the event of a conflict.
