Fifteen years graft is quite a feat for a little bus cobbled together from empty SPAM tins in a factory in Leeds, even more of a feat when they have been neglected by an operator of a lesser standing! Now in the twighlight of their careers, Wigan's Excels face the chop under the new Stagecoach regime.
35032, previously 60141, prior to that 6603 and new to Timeline Travel as plain old 215, heads back to Wigan on Beech Hill circular service 626...........Damn those LED destination displys!

The Type 89 Lotus Excel, built from 1982 to 1992, is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car designed and built by Lotus. It was based on the design of the earlier Lotus Eclat, which itself was based on the earlier Lotus Elite II.
Toyota engaged Lotus to assist with engineering work on the Supra. During this period, Toyota became a major shareholder in Lotus, later giving up their holding when General Motors bought Lotus.
Part of the deal between Lotus and Toyota included the use of many Toyota mechanical components in Lotus' cars. The original Excel (aka the Éclat Excel) used the W58 manual transmission, driveshafts, rear differential, 14x7 in alloy wheels, and door handles from the Supra Mk II, which was made from 1982 to 1986. The engine was the familiar all-aluminium, DOHC 2.2 L Lotus 912 Slant Four (which was used in the Lotus Esprit S3). During its lifetime, the Excel received two major upgrades with the introduction of the Excel SE (a 180 bhp/134 kW engine vs the standard 160 bhp/119 kW engined car) in 1985 and the Excel SA with automatic gearbox in 1986. Further facelifts in 1989 saw Citroen-derived mirrors, as featured on the Esprit, and 15 inch OZ alloy wheels to a similar pattern as the Esprit's.
According to Lotus records, only 1 Excel was manufactured to USA specification. The lack of release in the USA was due to the high emission regulations (which would hinder the car's performance), and poor sales of the car in Europe.

Seriously, fuck Excel.
There is actually a series with the above name in the worksheet I'm working on. And the series function in Excel 2007 arbitrarily refuses to accept it, despite my trying for 90 minutes at 3am on my vacation to get it to work, and the multitude of articles online (including from Microsoft) that say it should work.
So thanks, Excel, you syphilitic anal pustule straight from the colon of Adolf Hitler. I hope you choke on that bag of dicks you're currently eating and die.

First flown in Feb-02 with the Boeing test registration N1786B, this aircraft was re-registered N6055X for some Boeing test flights in early Mar-02. It was delivered to GECAS and leased to Excel Airways as G-XLAF in Mar-02.
It was wet leased to Air Europa (Spain) between Nov-02/Apr-03. The aircraft was wet-leased to Ryanair between Nov-03/Mar-04. It was fitted with blended winglets in Apr-06. In Nov-06 Excel Airways was renamed XL Airways UK.
The aircraft was leased to Sunwing Airlines (Canada) as C-GOAF in Dec-06. It was sub-leased back to XL Airways UK, operated by Sunwing, in May-07 and returned to Sunwing in Nov-07 for the winter season.
It was again sub-leased back to XL Airways UK in May-08. XL Airways UK ceased operations in Sep-08 and Sunwing returned the aircraft to the lessor the following day. It was initially stored at Lasham, UK and re-registered N29883 in Oct-08.
In Mar-09 the aircraft was leased to Garuda Indonesia Airlines as PK-GEI. It was returned to the lessor in Jun-16 and was leased to Sriwijaya Airways, Indonesia as PK-CMT the following month. It was stored at Jakarta-CGK, Indonesia in Jun-20 due to a combination of the COVID-19 Pandemic coupled with financial problems.
The aircraft never returned to service and was permanently retired. It was broken-up at Jakarta-CGK in Jul-22.

not long after the previous picture i was told to take AXF ( we always refered to the fleet by the letters in the reg no ) to have the vinyls to be applied , this meant going to Arriva in Cannock where this was taken
As previously mentioned all the Optare Excels within First are now with Manchester at Wigan depot, not bad considering the Manchester fleet never took them new!
The ones aquired from Timeline Travel were soon joined by the former Leicester examples and four from London that PMT had been operating. This one is from the latter fleet and is seen heading into Leigh from Wigan on the 658 service.
A shot of this bus in its PMT days can be found here.
