The Army Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) is a large-scale, semiannual field evaluation of network and non-network capabilities. The U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground (USAEPG) at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, traditionally provides test and evaluation support and instrumentation to NIEs. However, with NIE 14.2, the latest evaluation, USAEPG provided the additional support of a network forensics team that made a positive impact on network troubleshooting, reliability and network protection. Gathering lessons on interactions with the test community, industry partners or units being fielded with a new technology can result in significant benefit to other programs. Soldiers and Airmen from the Virginia National Guard's Fort Pickett-based 34th Civil Support Team conduct a field training exercise Nov. 18, 2014, at the Port of Richmond in Richmond, Va., to prepare for an external evaluation scheduled for June 2015. The 34th CST is externally evaluated every 18 months to validate they are able to effectively execute their mission of providing support to first responders in potential biological, chemical, nuclear, radiological and explosive incidents. They earned a “T” for trained rating on 12 collective tasks and an overall assessment rating of “Fully Mission Capable” following a Training Proficiency Evaluation proctored by U.S. Army North’s Civil Support Readiness Group-East Dec. 3 and 5, 2013. Observer controller / trainers from U.S. Army North were on hand for the FTX at the port to assist with the creation of a realistic scenario and provide feedback on the exercise to help leaders plan their training for the next six months to prepare for the evaluation in 2015. The full-scale exercise was conducted at Camp Zama from July 16 to 18, which was meant to evaluate the installation's comprehensive response to a variety of hazardous and disaster scenarios. The scenarios were included such as an earthquake, a hostage situation, and a hazardous material spill.
