For a time in 1979, several Delaware & Hudson GP39-2’s showed up in Conrail service. A few Conrail B23-7’s were spotted on D&H trains, so I believe that these were loans for evaluation, especially since Conrail was beginning to replace its first- and early second-generation fleet. Here two D&H GP39-2’s join a Conrail U30B on the Saucon Drill in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, while a PB&NE switcher/slug set work in the background. The EMD’s are no strangers to these tracks, having begin their lives as Reading units.

Northern Fulmar
It was very unusual to see this species close to the shore. I understand, it later made it to shore and was taken in to be evaluated as something wasn't quite right with it. Hopefully the rescue people were able to help it. Northern fulmars are quite abundant but they ingest a lot of plastic and other debris in the ocean, leaving them susceptible to pesticides and even heavy metals like lead. I wonder if this was one of the problems with this bird as it appeared well fed.

Retina IIC test, serial 50074

I've used a lot of cameras from the fifties and sixties, and there are plenty of mediocre cameras to be found - shoddily engineered and with really poor lenses. But I can assure you, the Kodak Retina IIC from 1958 is not one of those. The sharpness of the Rodenstock Retina-Heligon lens is exceptional, and it has great contrast and flare resistant. The camera itself is a precision instrument, made to last for decades. I expect this IIC has another 60 years of service in it, at minimum. Such a pleasure to use, too.

The CPKC Track Evaluation Train, or TEC Train, lays over at CPKC's Knoche Yard on the South Ramp, Track 202, while "Run 1", CPKC train YKK01-08, is seen to the left switching East Yard. 3/8/25.
Union Pacific Track Detection Car EC-1 rests at the UP passenger station in Salt Lake City, Utah on Aug. 15, 1981. The self-propelled car was built in 1975, retired in 1983, and donated to the California State Railroad a Museum.

NOTE: For those that have asked, all my sessions at this location start anywhere from 5-6pm. The sun was very low in the sky as these were the very end of the session, prob. almost 7:30ish. This is a totally open field, no open shade, so if the sun is any higher the lighting is very harsh. With the exception of darkening the shadows via curves, and a very slight color pop, the left one is almost SOOC. The one on the right I processed a bit more. :)
P.S. I had another session there a couple days ago and they have mowed this field down to NOTHING! I think I died a little bit. :(
NOTE#2: More answers....I'm not sure why, but on most of my lenses I seem to like the 3.2 spot. I hardly ever shoot totally wide open just because I do like to see some of the texture the background provides. When the sun is low in the sky, I mainly expose for their skintone and try to make sure there is something behind them (besides sky) so it isn't totally blown out. I would say I might underexpose a tad because I always intend to color pop them a bit and don't want to lose detail. Also, I DON'T use spot metering...it's the one that looks like an "eyeball", parenthesis with the dot, I think it's called evaluative. Spot metering and I have never gotten along. :)

El Valle del Río Puelo es una cuenca Binacional que nace en Argentina en el Lago Puelo y desemboca en el Oceano Pacifico en termina en el Estuario de Reloncaví, el primer gran fiordo de la Patagonia Chilena, en la localidad de Río Puelo, al oriente de la ciudad de Puerto Montt y a tan sólo 120 Km al sur de Puerto Varas en la Región de Los Lagos de Chile.

Un proyecto, perteneciente a la empresa Central Mediterráneo, en fase de aprobacion por el Gobierno Chileno, pretende construir una central hidrolelectrica en la confluencia de los ríos Torrentoso y Manso, afluentes del río Puelo. Lugareños y la industria turística cercana al río Puelo, la principal fuente de ingresos del valle, temen que el ecosistema en el que viven y trabajan se vea afectado con la construcción de esta central hidroeléctrica que instalaría grandes torres de alta tensión que arrasara bosques terminando con el encanto natural y pristino del valle. Ademas esto podria ser solo el comienzo de una serie de proyectos similares en el futuro como el que pretende realizar Endesa.
La empresa española de energía tiene proyectado construir una central hidroeléctrica, represando este río con un muro de 100 m de altura, e inundando cerca de 5000 ha, la cual tendría un impacto de grandes proporciones aún no evaluadas en la flora y fauna de toda la cuenca del río Puelo y en las diferentes actividades económicas de la zona.

Puelo River Valley is a binational basin born in Argentina on Lake Puelo flowing through the land to its mouth at the Reloncaví estuary the first great fjord of Chilean Patagonia that ends into the Pacific Ocean near the town of Rio Puelo east of the Puerto Montt city only 120 Km south of Puerto Varas in Los Lagos Region of Chile.
The Puelo River (mapudungún: It is in the East) is one of the 5 mightiest rivers of Chile its upper reaches drain out Lake Puelo forming the Lower Lake in Chilean territory and receives water from lakes Rocks Green Totoral Blue and Ventisquero River. A project from the Central Mediterranean company is awaiting to approval by the Chilean government that aims to build an hydroelectric plant at the confluence of the rivers Manso and Torrentoso Puelo River tributaries both. Locals and the tourist industry near the Puelo River the valley main income source fear about the ecosystem and how work and way of life would be affected by the construction of this power plant that will install large pylons swepting forests ending with the natural charm of the pristine valley. In addition this could be just the beginning of a series of similar projects in the future as it seeks to make Endesa.
The Spanish energy company has planned to build a hydroelectric plant, damming the river with a wall of 100 m height, and flooding about 5000 ha, which would have an impact of great proportions not yet evaluated in the flora and fauna of the whole Puelo River basin and in the different economic activities in the area.
A Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey is an unusual find in Gunnison, Colorado. Ship 166494 has the markings of USMC squadron MX-21. The Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 21 is based out of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. The "W" on the hill in the background is for the Western Colorado Mountaineers in Gunnison.
I have a very clean example of the 1939 Kodak Duo Six-20 that I've barely used. I decided that since I am evaluating various T-grain style films in FX-37 developer, I would throw this camera in the mix. Sadly, this Anastigmat lens isn't up to the job, IMO: at ANY aperture, its simply not very sharp. Good enough to make an 8x10 print from, but thats about it. I have negatives from 35mm Retina IIIc cameras that are far sharper than this. Zoom in to full size and you'll see how soft the detail is, from front to back.
But I learned something just the same: as promised, FX-37 gives a nice speed boost with T-max (and Delta) films, allowing me to actually rate it at box speed and get plenty of density. Most of this roll was bracketed from 250ASA and over, and only the thinner negatives are ideal (the rest are well on the way to TOO dense). FX-37 gives crisp grain, but much more conspicuous grain compared to - well - ANY other developer I've used on T-grain films. I'll post some samples from another test made a few days ago, comparing FX-37 with Pyro, and BER49. Very interesting results.
A small train in a vast landscape. All 12 axles of CN train O999 fit between the hills and curves north of Grainger, something that is normally not possible with the normal trains that traverse this subdivision.
After having tested the Three Hills Sub the previous day, CN's Track Evaluation train deadheads back north to Mirror. CN has assigned a veteran GP38-2W, still wearing a faded Zebra stripes, as the test train's power.
I purchased two of the Dino sets, which I actually built, putting me in the mood to build a Jurassic Park inspired scene. I am considering building/ writing a Jurassic Park esque series. As for now though, I am working on a Cyberpunk scene! :D
I love those spiraling horns so large compared to such a small antelope. They tell me this is a black buck. This is Virginia Safari Park near Natural Bridge, Virginia. The Safari Park is a drive through zoo where they encourage you to feed the animals. Consequently, the critters are conditioned to beg.
