Close up detail of a gigabit ethernet card salvaged from a defunct PC. Chances are that there is something similar inside the computer you are using to view Flickr. Sobering thought, when I started my career in IT a ten megabit ethernet card cost several hundred pounds, this one is a hundred time faster and costs about thirty pounds. Quite a change in the space of twenty five years. And it's December so have 30 days to go.

The modded Ethernet switch in use. Believe it or not, but I still have this thing and it still works, although I haven't actually used it in a while due to having enough ports on my DSL modem for what I need.
The chipKIT™ Max32 is a prototyping platform that adds the performance of the Microchip® PIC32 microcontroller. The Max32 features a USB serial port interface for connection to the IDE and can be powered via USB or an external power supply.
The Max32 board takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX795F512 microcontroller, which features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 80 MHz, 512K of flash program memory and 128K of SRAM data memory. In addition, the processor provides a USB 2 OTG controller, 10/100 Ethernet MAC and dual CAN controllers that can be accessed via add-on I/O shields.

In the picture we were testing all the units connected to internet using the ethernet port and getting the facebook like count of different urls. We were also testing the routine calculating the ranking of each url based on the like count.
The #1 jack "right in this picture" is the pass through jack hooked up correctly. The #2 jack "left in this picture" uses the unused wires to allow 2 channels over one CAT5.
