This is a fairly regular rant from me. I love seeing a girl in corsets, and don't get me wrong, a teeny weeny waist is a delight to behold, but not as important as the shape it imparts to her body. One estimation of the ideal waist size is (boobs + hips) / 4. A girl with bodacious curves and a 22" waist is more attractive to me than a stick insect with a 16" waist.

Tsing Yi (traditional Chinese: 青衣), or Tsing Yi Island (traditional Chinese: 青衣島) is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong, to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of 10.69 km², the island has extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau and Chau Tsai. In an estimation in 2007, there are about 200,400 people.

A photo I took in 2007 wiuth my Praktica F.X 2 35mm camera I bought off eBay. This frame is from the singular roll of film I put through it. I used the E. Ludwig Meritar 50mm F/2.9 I got in the auction, which I strongly suspect came with the camera when it was new in the 1950s. I attached a Kenko superwide 0.43x fisheye to it with an adapter ring. The end result was ...not good, but it made for a couple amusing shots. This one of Jair came out much better.

When I got back the prints (and scans) from my first venture with the F.X 2, I elected to never use it again. To be fair to the F.X 2, I wasn't very good with it, Kodak Gold 200 is a not very good print film, and the scans provided by the local outfit are terrible. Over a long enough time period, I might rescan them myself.

The truth is, I bought the Praktica and 50mm Meritar because also included in the auction was a Meyer-Optik Orestor 135mm F/2.8 portrait lens. At that moment in time, I was obsessed with old manual lenses that had a huge number of aperture blades. The Orestor has a 15 blade aperture.

I had (and still have) a Canon Rebel K2 SLR which has most of the modern features one would want and works with all my EF lenses. The F.X 2 is an absolute bear to use and really not worth the effort in my estimation.

What we'll see: Attracting Moths with Sugaring and lights

Places we will visit: My backyard and Cattus Island County Park, we will have permission for entry after dark.

Meet up place and time: We will all meet up at my house in Toms River at 8pm. My house is right off exit 81 on the Parkway, i'll give you directions.

Ending time: Plan on getting some sleep during the day as this is going to be a late night. Whenever you need to leave is the ending time ;-)

Organizer: Shawn Wainwright

This meet up will be canceled if: Rain.

The last meet up in June produced 60 species of moths!

See the results here: www.flickr.com/photos/shawn_wainwright/5798591691/in/set-...

We all know how to attract Butterflies, but how do we attract moths? I'll tell you how with a little info too:

It is a surprise to many people to learn that there are at least five times as many kinds of moths in the world as there are butterflies. By most estimations butterfly species number about 20,000. But there are at least 165,000 distinct types of moths — and perhaps twice that number, according to some entomologists.

We see more butterflies more often because we and the butterflies are diurnal — we operate on a daytime schedule and rest at night. Most moths, on the other hand, are strictly night fliers and hide during the day, disguised as bird droppings, dead leaves, lichens or tree bark.

So we catch, collect and photograph butterflies, and even cultivate special gardens to attract and nourish them. Meanwhile, the far more numerous and diverse moths, like most of nature’s nocturnal beings, get little attention from slumber-prone wildlife watchers.

That’s too bad, for few insect families boast as many lovely members. There is the delicate pale-green Luna, the pastel-hued rosy maple moth, the owl-eye spotted Io, the spectacular tawny-winged Polyphemus. There are the huge sphinxes, the brown- or silver-spotted tigers, the tree-bark-camouflaged underwings.

Because moths are furtive and often inconspicuous, getting a close look calls for a little trickery. A light (or better yet, a black light) with a sheet draped in front of it and over the ground below will attract a variety of interesting moths. Set the light trap in the darkest possible place.

But sugaring for moths is a more traditional (and, I think, enjoyable) method — and one that doesn’t tether you to an electric outlet. In moth-watcher language, “sugar” is a bait or attractant, a gooey home-brewed mixture of assorted sweet and fermented ingredients for which night fliers have a fondness. There are all sorts of sugar recipes — indeed, part of the fun of sugaring is experimenting with your own concoctions. Here is a classic, proven formula:

3 to 6 overripe bananas

½ to 1 cup molasses, corn syrup, honey or sugar

1 to 2 cups orange juice or other fruit juice

1 or 2 bottles stale beer

1 to 2 ounces rum

Mash or blend the bananas first, then stir in the sugary ingredients. Add the liquids last, a little at a time, until the mixture is about as thick as house paint. If it becomes too thin, just add another banana or two. Finally, put the mixture in a jar or bowl, cover it and leave it to ferment in the sun for a few hours.

Remember that this is just a basic recipe, open to all sorts of improvisation. Some cooks don’t include alcoholic ingredients, and instead add apple cider vinegar to the brew. Others swear by certain liquors (my local moths prefer Ron Bacardi) or kinds of juices that mimic those of local fruit trees (cherry and apple juices are popular). In any case, the objective is to produce a highly aromatic, cloyingly sweet and somewhat potent goo.

Now you’re ready to go “sugaring.” The best nights for attracting moths are cloudy, warm and still. In late afternoon or early evening, before sunset, go out and paint an 8-inch-square (or so) patch of sugar on tree trunks or other objects — fence posts, rocks, whatever — in promising moth territory. Usually, the best places are in open woods or in edge habitat, where trees or bushes meet a clearing of some sort: a lawn, a meadow, a driveway. Be aware, however, that moth sugar can leave a stain.on’t paint it on prized yard trees or other conspicuous landscape elements.

Several hours later, in the darkest part of the night, go back with a flashlight to check your “traps.” With luck, you should see at least one or two moths on each patch of sugar. Mind you, not all sugaring expeditions are successful — perhaps the weather or the site you picked isn’t right, or maybe your latest sugar recipe is a dud. But more often than not, you will be treated to a close-up look at some astonishingly beautiful and interesting creatures. Many moth species that are attracted to sugar are especially big and beautiful.

Perhaps because they’re too busy sipping — or, if you’ve served them a cocktail, because they’re a tad besotted — moths at a sugaring site tend to stay put when you approach. They are easily caught — but I prefer simply to study them where they are, using my flashlight and a field guide for on-the-spot identification. (If your flashlight’s too bright, put some red cellophane or tissue paper over the lens, or just hold your hand over it, to keep the light from disturbing the moths.)

Incidentally, a variety of other interesting insects, beetles especially, also are attracted to moth sugar. Don’t miss your opportunity to get a close look at these visitors, too.

On May 2, 2015, President Clinton and Chelsea Clinton traveled to the National Agricultural Research Laboratories (NARL) centre in Nairobi, where they received a briefing on the System for Land-based Emissions Estimation in Kenya (SLEEK) program, part of the Clinton Climate Initiative. The SLEEK program is collecting millions of data points on soil, forest, land cover, and climate. At the visit, experts talked about how SLEEK brings these data points together in a way that can inform national policies and landholders in a way that is user-friendly and informative.

A crazy evening with Gaidis Gadrans et Oscar Dominguez. When Gaidis suggested to see the Great Snipe on a lek, we were delighted but without knowing we were on the point to live an outstanding experience in time and light !

With « guest stars » thousands mosquitos we will fight with a mix of russian, french and catalan repellents !!

The full moon will help us to go to 32 000 ISO !!

The Great Snipe is classified NT by IUCN (Near threatened) and the estimate european population is around 2 000 couples ! Hunting is one of the main reasons of his decline with the field drainage and intensive agriculture.

She is probably the fastest migratory bird, able to fly in one run 5 500 kms in 64 hours !!

How long time we will ba able to see her ?

Whilst looking through pictures that never made it onto flickr the other day, I stumbled across this one and decided it was worth an upload. For 13 years Optare Metroriders112-123 served the people of Penketh and Sankey. They were finally withdrawn in April and replaced by six Solos, making them the last batch of buses to see daily public service work.

If memory serves, 112 was withdrawn one or two days after it's stablemates, due to one of the solos not being fit for service. The bus is now owned by a local enthusiast, making it one of the youngest buses currently in preservation by my estimations!

Chicago, Illinois. View east-southeast across Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan at 5:52 am. The sun will rise on this day at 7:09 am. Photo made with a Nikon Z7II.

My main reason for taking photographs on this cold morning was to see C/2021 A1 (Leonard) aka Comet Leonard. Unfortunately even though the best viewing location at this time by my estimation using Stellarium was not blocked by clouds, I never actually saw the comet on this date. Numerous stars are visible here as well as the planet Mars, the bright dot (enhanced by me) right of center not too far above the lake horizon. Above and to the right of Mars is kappa Lib, a double star. Above and to the left of Mars is theta Lib, another double star. The bright dot on the upper right is Spica, a variable double star.

I had three opportunities to see Comet Leonard; the morning of December 10 (see my previous posts), the morning of December 11 and today. December 11 was completely overcast. However it turned out I was never able to see the comet with my naked eye or binoculars.

This image is identical to the previous post except I have added a rendition of close to where Comet Leonard should be located. It is a faint greenish fuzzy dot (to which I added a tail in the direction indicated in Stellarium) left of the photo center above and slightly to the right of the Harrison-Dever Water Intake Crib which is two small bright dots on the lake surface. On this morning the comet is much lower in the sky than on December 10. This image will best be viewed on a large screen device or a small screen device using the Flickr mobile app that will allow zooming independent of Flickr enlargement restrictions.

*Comet Leonard was visible in darker sky areas and when using a camera attached to a star tracking device - refer to YouTube, Alyn Wallace, "I Flew 2900km To Photograph COMET LEONARD! (Last Chance!)". The ability to get a clear image of the comet and its tail were dependent on imaging it over a greater period of time than using a fixed camera taking a single shot as I was doing.

Turkey Oil Stone or former known as "Pierre Du Levant", "Pierre Du L'est", "Turkois Stone" or "Turkey Stone". In Germany these Stones were also known as Levantiner or Levantischer Schleifstein.

A very hard Dolomit (from Hardness Novaculite like) stone, smells like sulphur when lapped. Different inclusions, looks like it has many different cracks inside the stone.

A Stone which is known as beeing a bevel setter and mid-range Stone, some of these Stones are finishers....so these properties have to be checked out and cannot be determined by their look.

It seems to be that there is now a newer sourced stone which is named "Cretan Hone" which origin is in creece, which was a Part of the Ottoman Empire, so this Stone is also qualified as beeing a "Turkish Oil Stone", Check the Thread on Coticule.be

Identifiers:

1) very hard Dolomit stone (Novaculite like)

2) very dark black more going into brownish when light can shine thru

3) looks like it has serveral broken cracks inside which is found on several Novaculite types

4) smells like sulphur when slurry is arrised or the stone is lapped

The Loudoun memorial stands at the junction of South Street and Bath Street. It is a memorial to Edith Maud Hastings, Countess of Loudoun, wife of Charles Frederick Clifton, later 1st Baron Donington, and sister of the 4th Marquis of Hastings. It cost £3000 and was unveiled on 24th July 1879 to "commemorate the general estimation" in which the Countess was held by the townspeople. It was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, in the style of an Eleanor Cross on the site of the communal well known as "Gawby's Hole" a place where the town gossips met and collected their water. Benjamin Disraeli is said to have penned the inscription on the side of the monument. "In memory of Edith Maud , Countess of Loundoun in her own right, Baroness of Botreaux , Hungerford e Moleyns and Hastings, who spring from an illustrious ancestry herself, possessed their noblest qualities. The people of Ashby de la Zouch, and its neighbourhood have raised this cross, a tribute of admiration and of love 1874 "

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Rawdon-Hastings,_10th_Countes...

Allah's is the kingdom of the skies and the earth and that which is in them and He has power over everything. (Chapter 5: Verse120)

Do they not consider that Allah Who created the skies and the earth is able to create their like? (Chapter 17: Verse 99)

...and Allah is the Holder of power over everything. (Chapter 18: Verse 45)

And they have not estimated Allah with the estimation due to Him. And the earth will be totally in His grip on the day of resurrection, with the skies rolled up in His right hand. Glorified is He and high (above) that which they associate as partners (with Him) (Chapter 39: Verse 67)

Allah SWT as Al Qadeer is the Possessor of power, as Al Muqtadir He exhibits thsi power and as Al Qadir He holds power over everything. In view of the three important meanings indicated by the derivatives:

1- Measure

2- Capability

3- Programming or allotting a destiny,

Allah SWT precisely programs everything for the purpose for which He has created it and strictly guides it to follow its prescribed program with no liberty given to anything to deviate from the program or destiny prescribed by Him.

The power and capability associated with the derivatives of the root word is the power and capability of measuring out, programing or prescribing destinies. Laws of nature framed by Allah SWT can be considered as the Taqdir (destiny) or the program to be followed by everything in His creation. These laws of nature cannot be violated by anyone, but Allah SWT Himself can go against them, if He wills to as He does when He makes His prophets perform miracles like changing a wooden staff to a live snake or converting a form of a bird moulded in clay, to a live bird. These miracles performed against the laws of nature by Moses PBH and Jesus PBH were not only proofs of their being prophets and messengers of Allah but also an exhibition of the power of Allah and a challenge to humanity in general that no one else can perform miracles going against the laws of nature, without Allah's permission.

These laws of nature, destiny or program of everything in the creation of Allah appears to be recorded in "Lauhim Mahfooz" guarded tablet (Chapter 85: Verse 22) or the source book "Ummul Kitab". This book appears to contain the time and place of every event that is to take place in the universe, everywhere, each moment involving everything.

...And every affair has a (set) time / place of happening. (Chapter 54: Verse 3)

Allah abolishes what He wills and keeps established (what He wills) and with Him is the original prescription (book) (Chapter 13: Verse 39)

The above verses indicates that destiny is not the final word, if Allah wills He can abolish what He Himself has destined, He can even advance or postpone the time of an event appointed by Him as explained above.

Baroque church

In 1676, when the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Trinity was solemnly introduced to St. Peter's, it soon attained a high membership. A large part of the members were among the richest and most respected citizens of Vienna. The nobility was also represented to the highest tops. The Brotherhood therefore had the means to do so, and in 1700, it decided to demolish the old church and build a new building whose shape was to commemorate St. Peter's in Rome. One year earlier, in the plague year of 1679, Leopold I vowed to build a new building dedicated to the Holy Trinity in place of the dilapidated church. Builder Jankel was requested to make an estimation of the costs. He received 50 guilders for the building survey drawn by him.

According to the technical guide through Vienna (Ing. Martin Paul) the builders are indicated in the inscriptions in the dome knob: Francesco Martinelli, Franz Jänggl and Christian Oettl. However, the bibliographical references are widely differing. According to the manual of the German art monuments of Georg Dehio, the construction was started according to the plan of Gabriele Montani 1702, continued from this until 1703, then, probably completed by Johann Lukas Hildebrandt after modified plan 1708 in the shell and consecrated on October 25, 1708. 1708-1715 was followed by the interior fittings, 1713-1717 the dome space was completed in its current picturesque and sculptural design, but only 1730-1733 built the main choir. Cardinal Kollonitsch consecrated St. Peter's Church in 1733. The tomb of Wolfgang Lazius, who had been buried in the old Peterskirche in 1565, was transferred to the new St. Peter's church. The Petersfreithof (cemetery) still surrounded the church, it was only abandoned under Joseph II. In 1844, the façade was restored, and the many sales offices added to the church disappeared after the abolishemnt of the cemetery.

The history of St. Peter in Baroque period

When the old church was removed in 1701, it was decided to find the foundation stone of the first church, which contained "an old parable of Pope Leo III", the friend and contemporary of Charlemagne.

An old memorial book from the parish notes that the particle in 1749 still existed, but writes nothing about the nature of the same. The founders of the strange foundation stone claimed that it must have been laid in the year 800 and this conviction was maintained, so that afterwards the inscription of the cornerstone for the new church was written, which reads:

Petri prinzipis Apostolorum Petri Coeli Clavigeri Sacris honoribus a Carolo I. Caesare Magno anno post virginis partum DCCC extructe novis ex fundamentis DOM uni in Trinitate Deo et S. Petri honoriter augusta surrexit Lapidem in titulum cen age Jacob restauravit Leopoldus uterque Felix. "

The German translation is approximately as follows:

"This church, which stood over nine centuries, founded on holy honors on the solid rock of Apostle Prince Paul, the key bearer of heaven, by Charlemagne in the year 800, after the Virgin gave birth, has resurrected gloriously in honor of the almighty God who is united in Trinity and St. Peter, as second Jacob the cornerstone has laid Leopold the Great as well as the Happy. "

This laying of the cornerstone was solemnly performed by Emperor Leopold I on June 30, 1702 (according to Harrer, Czeike names April 22, 1702).

Already at the time of the start of construction an accident was recorded:

On the occasion of a solemn procession on October 29, 1702, in which the emperor also participated with his court, as a result of the overburden, the planks laid over the foundations collapsed and about 50 persons, mostly court cavaliers and page boys, plunged into the depths.

The completion of the church progressed very slowly. Even during construction, the wood of the dome was damaged, so this had to be replaced in 1722 by a dome cover, for which Emperor Charles VI as the supreme patron and member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity, supplied the copper. For years, the facade was missing and the towers had no ending.

On May 17, 1733, the church was finally consecrated by the Cardinal Count Sigismund Kollonitsch.

Appearance

The outer image of St. Peter's is dominated by the 56-meter high, massive dome, which in its configuration reminds of the dome of St. Peter. It is a two-storey facade of stocky effect, whose slopingly placed towers flank the concave central part and which is surmounted by the dome of the central building. The building itself glorifies the reign of Emperor Leopold I, whose motto is emblazoned in the interior above the choir arch. The charming, pavilion-like portal porch made of gray marble was built according to a design by Andrea Altomonte only 1751-1753. Figurative decoration made of lead by Franz Kohl, a pupil and assistant of Georg Raphael Donner, decorates it. Right at the top are the statues Faith, Hope and Love, as well as angelic figures bearing tiaras and keys, the insignia of papal sovereignty. On the gable window at the front and the vases on the side reliefs: depictions from the life of Peter. The main portal shows rich carving and beautiful fittings; an inscription commemorates the imperial plague vow.

In the niches below the two slopingly placed towers that flank the front of the church are the following sandstone figures: St. Peter and St. Simon, St. John the Evangelist (according to Paul Harrer St. Paul) and Judas Thaddeus. At the back of the choir (outside wall of the church) are stone sculptures of St. Peter and St. Michael, executed by Lorenz Matitelli around 1730.

On the eastern side wall of the church, opposite the exit of the Goldschmied alley, a marble relief is embedded in the stone wall, depicting the legendary setting up of the cross at this place by Charlemagne. Created by Rudolf Weyr, it was unveiled in 1906.

Barockkirche

"Ecclesia quae IX ultra saecula steterat, fundata supra firmam Petram prinzipis Apostolorum Petri Coeli Clavigeri Sacris honoribus a Carolo I. Caesare Magno anno post virginis partum DCCC extructe novis ex fundamentis D.O.M- uni in Trinitate Deo et S. Petri honoriter augusta surrexit. Lapidem in titulum cen alter Jacob restauravit Leopoldus uterque Felix.“

Friends see note* below description.

I feel blessed when I see Sandhill Cranes, much less photograph them. It lifts me up in the most amazing way, and I am ever in awe of their beauty, movements and interactions. This is a photo of Cherry, taken by my estimation a week before she and Classic would start sitting the nest. Classic does most of the sitting. He’s a diligent dad and mate. They are not nesting on the property where I work this year. We’ve had a lot more ducks nesting and hanging out in the ponds, including a Hooded Merganser family. Lots of other birds are frequenting the property as well, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, White Ibis, Little Blue and Lesser Blue Herons. I got a decent photo of the Merganser family I will post.

Spring is in full swing here in Central FL. So many birds are nesting. This morning as I was leaving for work, I startled what I think was pair of grackles that had come in our garage to grab some fuzzie/dust bunnies/spider-webby fluff for its nest. My hubby thinks they are trying to build a nest IN the garage. As quaint as that is, it’s messy, so we’re keeping the garage door closed.

The Lakewood Osprey pair are nesting, but I’ve seen no sign of a nest for the Rayas pair behind the Mexican restauarnt. The owner of the restaurant told me he found one electrocuted. Maybe it was one of the parents. Life is definitely hazardous for urban wildlife. I’m glad I have photos of them in all their glory, and I’ll keep hoping I’ll see them or their offspring in that area.

*Special Note: Dear Craniacs and Flickr Friends! I am alive and kicking, and getting back to jumping out of my car with my camera, or running outside when I see or hear something. Life and work are extra busy, and we’ve had some family stuff. All is well, but I was stretched extra thin for a few months. Thanks for Flickr Mailing me to make sure I was okay. I’m going to try to log some Flickr time at least once a week so people aren’t checking the obituaries for me. Love and Hugs! =o)

DOROTHY LAYTON CROWNS KELLY PETILLO

DOROTHY LAYTON AND KELLY PETILLO

When the Italian Helmet dash race started the other night at the Ascot Speedway, Manager Regeland of the track said that in his estimation Kelly Petillo had taken a good look at the fair charmer, Dorothy Layton, who was slated to present the helmet to the winner, and that he had gone plumb crazy to cop the much coveted crown and the kiss from the Hal Roach star actress.

One glance at the way Kelly was breaking all records made you believe every Word of the statement, and as quick as you could say "Jack Robinson," the speed demon came home a winner. Miss Layton is shown here crowning the winner.

Every one applauded, and was she glad (meaning Miss Layton), for she, too, had her eagle eye set on Kelly to win the minute the race started and she pulled for him the rest of the evening to come through in the bigger events.

100-Lap Main Event at the Legion Ascot Speedway Next Wednesday Night

Next Wednesday night promises to be another night of thrills for the spectators at the Legion Ascot Speedway, when they have another 100-lap main event. There will also be a 15-lap event for non-Miller cars, giving those drivers who haven't such powerful cars, a better chance to prove their driving ability.

Have you noticed the difference in the driving of the two classes of cars? The Miller drivers have so much power in their motors that they have to shut off their motors, or use their brakes, before going into the turns, while the non-Miller cars are driven with their motors wide open throughout the race. It takes real driving ability to handle one of these cars when they go into a skid or spin and with these boys getting a better break on the track, you can look for some of the favorites of tomorrow to develop out of these drivers. In fact, that is where your favorites of today started.

Kelly Petillo won the Helmet Dash last Wednesday night and was presented with the beautiful Helmet and the Kiss by none other than Priscilla Dean. In the main event Ernie Triplett took the lead at the first turn and held it for the entire 50-laps with Lester Spangler finishing second, Sam Palmer third, Carl Ryder fourth, Mel McKee fifth and Kelly Petillo sixth.

Babe Stapp was back on the track last Wednesday night after a several months' lay-off due to his accident last spring. Babe did some beautiful driving in the Helmet Dash and the first ten-lap heat, but his arm is still not strong enough to stand the strain of the grueling driving and he turned his car over to Mel McKee to drive in the main event. However, in a few more weeks Babe's arm will be strong enough to allow him to give the boys at the track some real competition. We'll beseeinya.

"As they were expecting to have a fight with the Crees next day, they got up a medicine dance in the afternoon, and I was solemnly invited to attend, that I might add my magical powers in increasing its efficacy. Amongst all the tribes here assembled, the sacredness of the medicine pipe-stem is held in very high estimation, and it was with much solemnity that I was placed in the best position, to work my incantations; that is to say, to make the sketch No. 18." You know what's great? How a large swath of the campus has to hike it up to Roger Williams Baptist Church ON ADAMS to vote. Also how those in west campus housing (30th, S. Ellendale/Menlo, Century/Cardinal) have to travel all the way to Abundant Life Christian Church on Normandie. Smooooth.

I'll tell ya, making this thing really opened my eyes as to how crazy these things are drawn up and truly bewildered me. That and the fact that the arrows make it look like what Nazi Germany used to plan their attack on western Europe and Africa.

Hyderabad, India, in my estimation, has organized chaos in its traffic patterns. With the pollution - that you can see billowing up here - it seems even worse at night. One evening while my friend was driving the car, I looked out into a street filled with massive amounts of traffic and watched a kind of dinosaur shape ambling down the street. After a moment, I realized it was a camel. What a shock. I then worried about the camel with all the street activity and the fear the animal might have from all of the honks, toots, and squeals.

In my estimation, CAM-5 must have been one of the most isolated places on earth to work from. Not a soul in more than 200 kilometres! Temperatures could reach plus 20 C (68 F) in summer and minus 47 C (-52 F) in winter. My colleagues and I resided here for only a few days in August 1978, but for those actually working there for months at a time, well, life must have been pretty lonely. The quarters were comfortable enough and the food was excellent (great cook!). CAM-5 ceased operation in 1992 and was dismantled soon afterwards. From what I can see on Google Earth, not much remains there.

I regard courage as the supreme human virtue, and this lovely and remarkable young woman has it. This is Miss Angie, a dance instructor at the Fred Astaire studio in Chandler, Arizona, whom I met several weeks ago when I signed up for lessons, which at first were for me and later included my wife. Angie quickly earned both my affection and respect, and her stature, in my estimation, only continues to grow. I believe in angels, both the supernatural and mortal varieties, and she has become the latest one to bless and enrich my life.

Angie is only 26 years old, but has battled some major health problems during the course of her young life. She told me when I enrolled in the course that she had undergone a serious bout of clinical depression, during which she gained about 65 pounds and moved in with her father, where she intended to just sort of give up on life. Someone persuaded her to take up dancing once again, which she did, and she credits it with saving her life. Angie has also had two heart attacks, including a massive one which occurred during a public event and nearly gained the upper hand.

I'm sure Angie had moments when she indulged in self-pity, which most of us do at one time or another. (I certainly have.) But she never made that a permanent part of her life. She is blessed with a vibrant and outgoing personality, and talent galore, all of which she has used to enrich the lives of other people -- obviously including myself. She told me last weekend that she wants to have children someday, and does what she must to ensure that she will be around for them.

I hope this and the other two pictures of Angie that I am posting today will get a lot of views, less for whatever technical or artistic merit they might have than for the story which accompanies the images. I commend her example to one and all, as one who refused to be defeated by life, but instead picked herself up and embraced it. And my, how she did embrace it!

As a footnote, I took this series of pictures at the dance studio after Sheila and I had a lesson with Angie. I wanted something that would capture her personality and joie de vivre, and I believe I had some success with that. I'm sure Angie would pose for me, but she is so busy all the time that I have never had the opportunity to ask her to do so.
