Say hello to Svala and Ester whom I met in the entrance hall at the Central Station in Copenhagen. They were standing in the middle of the hall and as they did not look busy I approached them and asked them to participate in my project. They both accepted without blinking an eye, and Ester answered me: "we certainly qualify for your project, we're from Iceland". They told me that they had been on a business trip during the past week, and that they now intended to stay in Copenhagen over the week-end as tourists in order to see more of the city. They were both in high mood and I promised to help Ester with a detail about the photo, - I hope you're pleased Ester !

They wished me good luck with the project, and I thanked them both and wished them a great week-end in Copenhagen.

Svala (means Swallow - the bird- in Icelandic), and Ester (right) is from Queen Esther in the Old Testament, - but I guess most of you knew that already!

The Malemute Saloon, decorated in 'early gold camp style'.

Ester, Alaska, USA.

The Malemute Saloon show 'Service with a Smile' features stories, comic sketches, songs and dance from the gold rush days and poetry written by Robert W. Service, 'the Bard of the North'. His famous poem "The shooting of Dan McGrew" starts with these lines:

"A bunch of the boys were whooping it up in the Malemute Saloon;

The kid that handles the music-box was hitting a jag-time tune;

Back in the bar, in a solo game, sat Dangerous Dan McGrew,

And watching his luck was his light-o'-love,

the lady that's known as Lou."

Ester, 7 miles southwest of Fairbanks on the Parks Highway, is a community of artists, writers, Bohemians and people working in Fairbanks (population about 200). It also features Ester Gold Camp, with a saloon, a song and dance show and a gift shop.

A shuttle bus provides round trip evening transportation from the major hotels in Fairbanks. In winter everything is closed. Ester Gold Camp is officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

came down the road to bring Antione some kumala that grows and is ready to harvest in two months instead of three. He was very excited for her to share her fast maturing kumala with him.
