I have been on a journey, but not a photographic one. About two weeks ago I had successful open heart surgery to replace a heart valve. I am now biomechanical.
The surgery date was planned. A decision arose – if you knew this image might be the last you share with the living world, what image would you chose?
Why would it even matter though, right? As I sat on my recovery bed in the hospital, reading the book “Essentialism”, I came to the same conclusion I did pre-surgery – photography is one of those few essentials to me, and interacting with my close photographic friends is an important part of that.
I am on the other side now. Under quiet conditions, I can hear my heartbeat through the clicking of my mechanical valve, a reminder of my finite existence. My desire to create is as strong as ever, and I thank you for our journey together.

Virtually always in my bag (barring security rules): the latest incarnation of my mini Swiss Army knife¹ (I use the scissors more than anything else) and a wooden² comb³.
¹This particular one is a souvenir from a trip to NYC; you might be able to guess when.

C-FWZV, a de Havilland Canada DHC-7-103, at Yellowknife Airport in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. It was departing as TIN802 (Air Tindi Ltd.) to the tiny communities of Wekweeti and Gameti in the Northwest Territories.
Like many others, these two remote NWT communities are only accessible year-round by air. The movement of essentials such as fuel, food, pharmaceuticals and building materials is accomplished by flights like this. Each of those communities have a 3,000-foot-long gravel runway that can easily accommodate the nimble Dash 7.
Tli Cho Air Inc. is a joint venture between the Tlicho people's Tlicho Investment Corporation (52%) and Air Tindi Ltd. (48%). It provides scheduled passenger service and cargo flights from Yellowknife to Gameti, Wekweeti and Whati.
Serial number 81 began its career as P2-ANP with Air Niugini Limited at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on May 5, 1982.
Forty years later, it continues to accomplish important missions.

CN 408 encountered issues with their trailing unit, 2672 this morning in Truro, which had to be setoff in the yard. The crew was already ordered a fair bit later last night than usual, which didn't help matters any. Dartmouth local crew 505 relieved the Moncton crew at Kinsac, and brought the manifest the rest of the way into Dartmouth. After setting off two humps in Burnside for the industrial park, the train is now in 105 territory, passing Tufts Cove power plant. Both the power plant and the railroad are essential services during this COVID-19 pandemic.
