Most of the Mycena species are extremely small mushrooms, rarely exceeding a few centimeters in diameter and are frequently overlooked when walking in the forest. Once spotted, they are quite stunning.

Coprinus comatus.

This week in the garden, we witnessed the growing of three beautiful shaggy mushrooms, which positioned themselves in the shape of a triangle pointing towards my kitchen.

This is an old one from the archives. My son, Ali, then 5 years old, would get bored with having a camera in his face all the time, so he would turn his face away whenever I pointed one at him. This time, I focused carefully and looked away. When I saw out of the corner of my eye that he had turned his face toward me, I pressed the shutter button. This is what I got!

The subject is a "sand-dollar" with a blue LED inserted within, this created an eerie yet organic scene. It reminded me of both Alien & The Abyss...

Subsequently, this hand-held photograph was taken at MFD, for a life-size magnification reproduction of 1:1.

Usually I don't post (any more) the same picture twice, but this is kind of special case.

I posted a colour version here and a B&W one on 1x where it was not published (it didn't get through the curation filter).

Then I submitted the initial B&W version to the 1x critiques and I got a lot of very useful and friendly advices which I readily put in practice... and voilà the result!..;-)

Arrowhead

#arrow #macromondays #mm #hmm

Simply a decorative arrow handmade by an indigenous Lakota (Sioux) woman.

Originally, I was going to pass this week, but I got sucked in.

I tried a bunch of different comps, angles and magnifications, and settled on this straight-forward (Um, straight-as-an-arrow! ;-) ) composition.

The subject is 2 1/4 inches (57mm) in length and shot at half lifesize, or 1:2 magnification using an EOS M2, a Tamron 60mm f/2 macro lens via Fotodiox Pro adapter along with a bounced flash from a Altura AP-FLS-C1001 Speedlite.

This comp is the full frame; no crop.

Thank you.

After a week of continuous snow and rain, suddenly the heavy clouds lifted. A splendorous sun appeared and very quickly melted away completely the ice and snow.

Lactarius torminosus var. nordmanensis, found in the United States, Canada, and Switzerland. The species is known as Lactarius torminosu, woolly milkcap or the bearded milkcap.

Torminosus means "tormenting" or "causing colic", in reference to the gastrointestinal distress caused by consuming it raw. Apparently, having spotted it in the forest after the tempest helped me to give this photograph such a fitting caption.

After a long break I resumed my walks in the forest this week. With the world of big iconic nature far way in the distance, it's time to get back to the small nature in the nearby forest.
