Miércoles Santo, Semana Santa . Good Wednesday of Holy Week or Spy Wednesday.

Easter Sunday for Christians is the most important of all days, celebrating The Resurrection of Jesus following his crucifixion on the cross on Good Friday . Holy Week is the week before Easter Sunday beginning on Palm Sunday, the celebration of Christ’s triumphant entry to Jerusalem. For all Christians Holy Week is special but especially in Spain where Holy Week ( Semana Santa ) takes on a very unique and special pageantry.

.Semana Santa features the procession of pasos, floats of lifelike wooden sculptures of individual scenes of the events of the Passion, or images of the Virgin Mary showing grief for the torture and killing of her Son. Some of the sculptures are of great antiquity and are considered artistic masterpieces, as well as being culturally and spiritually important to the local Catholic population.

During Holy Week, the Conil is crowded with residents and visitors, drawn by the spectacle and atmosphere. The impact is particularly strong for the Catholic community.

The processions are organized by hermandades and cofradías, religious brotherhoods. During the processions, members precede the pasos (of which there are up to three in each procession) dressed in penitential robes, and, with few exceptions, hoods. They may also be accompanied by brass bands.

The wearing of the hoods is so penitents can publicly display their penance but without the vanity of being recognised. The hoods are pointed to point to heaven. The procession on Easter Sunday does not have any penitents and the pasi have the image of the risen Christ.

Map of Nepali roads we were banned from traveling on when we returned to Nepal after our earthquake evacuation. the volunteer sites were marked with green flags. We were the second green flag from the right in the picture, banned roads were taped red, the worst earthquake epicenters were red stars. All of us were in Kathmandu with Peace Corps administrators trying to plan safe routes back to our sites.

This is my entry to the Vietnam contest on the LCN.

2 Days ago we were sent in to Vietnam. The land is humid and filled with jungle and vegetation. I lead a squad of men. Our objective was to report to the first checkpoint, which was 23 miles from where we landed. We had a map so we used that. The river was half a mile fom the drop and then it ran straight to the checkpoint. Jackson, our navigator carried an RPG. He was also responsible for keeping us on track. The river divided and he lead us along the wrong way. So now we're lost and theres only 5 of us. We have only the ammo we came with, and hostile helicopters have been seen. I dont know what we're going to do but, I say we stick with the river.

We spent a full day in the revitalized downtown area of this vibrant medium sized Southern city that lies a few miles north of Interstate 85. Falls Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a Rails to Trails walking/cycling trail provide a good way to get some fresh air and stretch your legs. There's a great deal of public art on display along Main Street, and the Greenville County Museum of Art has an amazing permanent collection of works by the Wyeths, Jasper Johns, and numerous regional and African American artists. There are also always several beautifully curated special exhibitions going on, and entry is FREE:
